I've been experiencing a rapid heart rate for the past few weeks now. I've had a ECG and Blood Test done and my doctor told me everything was fine except that I have a "fast heart rate". He doesn't seem concerned about this. I've told him that at times it pounds so fast that I feel light headed. It comes and goes all the times and it scares me some. I also told the doctor that it skips at times, almost like a grinding sound, its hard to explain. I've talked to 2 different druggest here in town and they both said "its too high". That I should be on a beta blocker to slow it down. It just comes on when ever. Nothing seems to trigger it so I don't understand.

I have high blood pressure and high chol and have been on meds for them for years now to control it. Occasionally my PB does go up. I don't know what to do, should I be concerned or will this pass.

My question is, has anyone else experienced this and was anything done to help the rate slow down some.

Thank you

In some people having a "fast heart rate" may be normal but by fast we mean 100 beats per minute. If your heart is regularly beating faster than this, especially with episodes of pounding and light headedness, you really need to return to your MD and ask for a referral to a cardiologist.
A 12 lead EKG only shows what is occurring at the time that the EKG was performed and any damage from previous heart attacks. A cardiologist can place you on a 24 hour Holter monitor that allows them to see what your heart does over an entire 24 hour period. This makes it easier for them to diagnose any abnormalities.
You also mentioned that you have high blood pressure. If you feel the pounding it could be related to your pressure being higher which can also cause you to have dizzy spells.
Please follow up with your doctor for your own peace of mind.

I have the exact same thing you do. I hate going out, especially to public places. I fear seeing someone I know out in public and I always feel as though everyone is staring and judging me. Its uncontolable, everything logical has no bearing on your mind. You know deep down there is no reason to be afraid but It doesnt matter. I am afraid to meet new people and I always lived by a horrible rule that if people want to talk you, they will, otherwise leave them alone. I have been going to a doctor for the past 5 years. The trick is to find someone who cares about your condition not someone who cares about the few hundred dollars they make for the hour you see them. Dont let this anxiety make you afraid to see a doctor, their job is too help you, and anything you tell them they must keep secret by law (with a very few extreme exceptions). As for medications, I have been on probably 15 different pills. The best one in my opinion was zoloft. Its more for depression but can help a lot with anxiety. Unfortunalty, all medications have side affects and zoloft made me tired during the day. Regardless, it really helped and I felt almost normal for a while. Everyone is different and it may take some time to find the right medication and dosage for you. You should also try cognitive theory which focuses on your thought process rather than your brain chemistry. I just started college a week ago and everyday is a struggle for me. I have to spend 15 minutes before class talking to myself before I can leave my dorm room and it has been very hard for me to meet people. If you need to talk to someone who has exactly what you have, feel free to send me a message. Hope this helped and good luck!

The suddent rapid heart beats are mostly caused by vascular diseases, or diuretics, deficiency of minerals, toxifications...

See a cardologist asap with modern machines for testing, BLOOD TEST of homocysteine, heart medicines and monitored excercise/walk therapy!
Supplement of potassium or few banana or baked potato, shrimp or oily fish are also very good to regulate heart beats.

Your pulse might not only fast but also irregular with extra-systoles. If you feel light headed, it means your brain does not get enough blood flow. This shows that your heart fails functioning as a blood pump because your heart rate is too high.

If I were you, I would see a cardiologist to get helps.

The medical staff that mentioned the beta blocker might be onto something. Try that at all costs. Also take up an exercise regime(just start easy and slow and work your way up) if at all possible. best of luck to you
