Pathogens. I have a fear of picking up hepatitis or other blood borne illnesses at restaurants and cafeterias. Plus, you could pick up food poisoning. The biggest reason to switch to home packed lunches is that school lunch is probably really not that nutritious.

Because in general, cafeteria food tastes like cardboard, you don't really know WHAT is in it, and by bringing your lunch, you will be certain that you will like what you have to eat instead of having to try to stomach "mystery meat #7"

I'm guessing this is referring to vegetarian food? The only think I can think of is that many schools don't offer vegetarian friendly food. My childs school did a complete turn around with food this year (thank goodness)...they now only offer whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, no fried foods and more.

Control over your choices.
If you're on a special diet.
Basically you eat what you want and are not confined by the choices the school is putting before you.
