What kind of meat substitutions does wal-mart carry?

What vitamins should I get?

HaHa, I find giving up meat to be easier then giving up Wal-Mart.

For ppl living pay check to pay check Wal-Mart is the solution.
Theres a Whole Food store, Fresh Pickins, and Heath store in my area. They are sooo nice, really nice but much too pricey =[ . Once I'm settled in good finacially I plan to swich my buisness over to the "good side" haha.

Besides Wal-Mart isnt the only one doing that. That doesn't make it right but I have a responsiblity to myself and others in my home. I can not let things like that get in the way of putting food on our table.

If I shop at Winn-Dixie then say I'm short on the rent or the light bill. I have better things to worry about then how Wal-Mart really manages to get those prices so low.

TeeHeHe.... I dont work for Wal-Mart. But if I had to choose Wally or McDonnalds ...here I come Wally World.

I'm just being honest, no need for me to say things ppl want to hear when they aren't true.

I'm having a difficult time picking the best answer... and over time more good ones keep rolling in.

dolcezza2005 thank you *so* much for that recipe! I only needed to get ground coriander and I've been stuffing my face ever since.

I got some vitamins... maybe its a mental thing but I feel an energy boost already.

I have this odd end job tomorrow and I have to do the grocery shopping for a traveling production crew, lots of cokes and junk food. I plan to do alll the shopping at TARGET =] see I learn. Besides its not my money and with the budget they gave me haha... I might be able to shop at Calandro’s Supermarket.

Whats really important is how do i squeeze 14 bags of ice and groceries into my itty bitty Celica car.

Sorry to see that people are getting fiesty with you about your shopping choice. You have to do what you have to do in order to keep a roof over your head and your lights on. Stay strong, sister! Don't mind them.

Any-who, the super Wal-Mart in my area carries Gardenburger, Morningstar Farms and Bocca products. They also carry some Yves, LifeLight and Galaxy products in the organic refriderated section near the produce. It's slim pickings, but I live in an area where there are not many v & vs. If you are interested, they also carry a large variety of rice and soy milks near the normal milk.
The vitamins in the green and yellow bottle should be good. (I don't remember the name, sorry!) I actually buy that brand for my calcium.

peace love & light

The Wal-Mart supercenter where I live devotes about 3 feet by 1 foot to meat substitutions. They've also got some soy cheese and a few other things in that spot. Target has a better deal on multivitamin/multimineral pills: 100 for under $5, and on the last one I bought I got an additional 30.

It's very convenient, but for reasons already stated we all should try to take our grocery business elsewhere. This Saturday I'm going to start getting my local fruits/veggies from the farmer's market. The price is a little higher but the quality is better, and it's important to give business to family farms when you can. Middlemen are not always necessary or beneficial.

As for stuff that cannot be grown locally, I have to keep reminding myself to shop at the health food store and local grocery store. If we as consumers take our business to health food stores and buy veg foods, they can continue to expand and hopefully more people will choose our way of life.

Wal-marts do vary, but mine has Morningstar, Gardenburger, and Bocca brands in the frozen section, as well as some others in the produce section. Other grocery stores are likely to carry such items too, and would be better for you as a vegetarian (and for other reasons - I agree with the guy above) as their produce isn't often all that good. But if they really are your only option, check out the frozen and produce sections and if you can't find them there, ask. As far as vitamins are concerned, you need to look at what your diet consists and evaluate what you might be missing. I myself take no vitamins but I eat a pretty varied diet with lots of veggies. If you haven't already you might want to spring for a book on vegetarian basics so you can be sure you are eating the right foods for full nutritional benefit.

i like most of the meat substitutes from boca burger and morningstar farms that are in the frozen food section of wally-world. i use the vegi ground burger in chili and spaghetti sauce. eat all different kinds of burgers.(i think they taste better fried in a little oil than nuked) and you can top a burger a thousand different ways. fake hot dogs and buffalo wings and chicken tenders and sausage BUT my favorite is vegi corn dogs(which i love to eat with Easy Mac and cheese.) i eat real vegis too but like meat substitutes. / i use Centrum multi vitamins because they are cheap enough (usually can find a coupon or they offer an extra bottle for free) and don't have a nasty wang taste that some vitamins have. happy shopping

The one near me carries a meagre selection of some Boca and Morningstar farms products. If you happen to have a Stop N Shop or a Shaws near you, they have a MUCH better selection.

As for vitamins, and good multivitamin will do, but if you are strict, read the ingredient list. Many/most contain gelatin. To be sure you are getting something safely veg vitamin-wise, I would recommend you buy it elsewhere. GNC would have something veg, or you can buy it online, someplace like veganstore.com.

Good luck.

For a while I had the same problem... I just could not afford those Boca or Morningstar burgers... SO! I started making them myself. Someone posted this recipe here on Y.A. and I really like it. Just wanted to share with you this recipe. Im sure it will help your budget too, since all the veggies needed for this recipe are not pricey at all. Good luck to you! :)

VEGETABLE BURGERS

2 c. shredded carrot
1 c. cooked brown rice, cooled
1/2 c. chopped onion
1/2 c. fine dry bread crumbs
1 tbsp. snipped parsley
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground coriander
2 beaten eggs (use egg substitute)
2 tbsp. soy sauce
Nonstick spray coating

In a large bowl, stir together carrot, rice, onion, bread crumbs, parsley, salt, ginger, coriander, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Stir together “eggs” and soy sauce; add to rice mixture and mix well. Cover and chill. Shape rice mixture into 6 patties.
Spray a baking sheet with non-stick spray coating. Place patties on baking sheet. Broil 3 to 4 inches from heat for 3 to 5 minutes on each side or until set.

Makes 6 servings.

Beef and lamb are as close to a vegetarian meat as you will find. Cattle and sheep do not intentionally eat any meat. The only animals they consume are bugs and worms that are on the grass they eat. Using that logic moose, venison, goat, horse and antelope are also vegetarian meats but I have never seen them at WalMart.

Try your local unionized grocery store like Stop&Shop, Foodtown or Shop Rite. I'd also recommend taking a multi-vitamin every few days. Do not take iron supplements because you risk over-doing it and causing yourself blood clots. Good luck with the vegetarianism!

By the way...
You shouldn't shop at Wal-Mart at all. Wal-Mart skips out on paying their fair share of property taxes, has received millions in subsidies a.k.a. Corporate Welfare from the US government, they provide poverty level wages for their employees and do not provide adequate health care coverage. By providing low wages and not providing health care benefits, their employees are left with little or no choice but to enroll in Medicaid or MediCare which are tax payer funded programs. These practices all unfairly shift the burden on to YOU, the tax payers! BOYCOTT WAL-MART!!

are you getting paid by wally world, to say the stuff you're saying?
i'm watching you.

i find the wally world's vegetarian section lacking, it's doable in a pinch, but for the long run, it's nothing compare to a real store that sells REAL FOOD.
