Yes, if they follow the typical "western diet" and sedentary lifestyle. Many groups, not just American Indians, are more susceptible to type two diabetes than others. It has as much to do with their lifestyle as it does their genetics, however. If they were as lean and active as their ancestors and ate as their ancestors did 150 years ago, the incidence of type two would be practically insignificant. Read more here:

It's not a hypothesis at all. The facts are out there. All one has to do is look at the figures and the conclusions will be readily apparent. Just try to get folks to pay attention, though. I always get at least one thumbs down for my posture on this. Diabetes is already beyond epidemic proportions in first world countries, yet no one seems to be paying attention to the obvious facts. IT'S THE FOOD, LACK OF EXERCISE, AND EXCESS WEIGHT... it's a no brainer. Not even the ADA who supposedly is looking for a cure can seem to grasp this.

Your hypothesis is somewhat correct. Genetics plays a bigger role in type 1 diabetes than type 2 but there is a genetic component no matter which diabetes it is. Native Americans, African Americans, Hispanics are all at an increased risk for Diabetes over a caucasian person. Why this is no one is fully sure, but that is how it is.

More likely to be diagnosed than what? American Indians with type 1 diabetes which is also hereditary? Non-American Indians with diabetes? Your question needs some clarification as it does not state what you are comparing the American Indians with.

While we all hate to sound negative against are First nations peoples, its very true. First nations and Blacks have a very high incidents of diabetes. In fact statistics show that if we don't take care of ourselves 1 in every 3 white person will develope Diabetes. 1 in every 2 black and Native American and sorry to say for the Latino's its 100%.

Diabetes is quickly becoming the number 1 killer of North Americans. Its not the diabetes itself but the co-morbidities such as Heart Disease, high blood pressure. Kidney and liver failure. The list goes on.

The hypothesis is too broad. It will lead to an invalid result. You need a more confining premise from which to develop an hypothesis.
