Just wondering (randomly) what would be the benefits and downsides of eating a whole cantaloupe a day.

How many calories does a medium sized cantaloupe have (post other nutrition like Vitamin A and C info too please)?

I think there's absolutely nothing wrong with eating one cantaloupe a day. It's a great way to give you a full tummy without much calories. I don't know why some people here are saying that it's high in calories. As per my information 100 grams of cantaloupe contains about 34 calories only. I think there are other types of fruits that are not as healthy (containing more sugar and calories) like maybe figs or mangos but melons in general are a great way to keep one from feeling hungry without consuming much calories.

Well, fruits have quite a bit of sugar, and eating a whole cantaloupe every day might get boring. It would probably count as 4-5 servings (a serving would be half a cup), depending on the size of the melon. And you do want to eat a variety of fruits because different fruits have different phytonutrients and antioxidants.

So I'm not sure that's such a good idea. Maybe you could do half a cantaloupe with some blueberries or raspberries tossed in.

I love cantaloupes!! we probably share the same eating habits of eating plenty of cantaloupes per day...haha..
I did actually looked for the benefits of cantaloupes. They are full of vitamin A and C but pretty high in calories too. But i have eaten a lot before and still not gain weight til today, so I reckon it's okay. ;)

The average person should aim to consume at least 5 servings of fruits & veggies a day. So, depending on the size of the melon, you're probably meeting that requirement which is great.

Canteloupe is a great fruit for Vitamin A & Vitamin C. Just one serving gives you over 100% of your daily value

I believe everything in moderation. Too much of anything isn't good.

However, cantaloupes are one of the healthiest fruits to eat, high in vitamins and anti-oxidants. They are also very high in fiber.

I think if you eat one, over the course of a day rather than at one sitting, you would probably be alright. Good luck!

Aside from the danger of salmonella poisoning? HUGE caloric intake! Many people think that fruits are "dietetic", since they're natural. WRONG! Actually, fructose is absorbed by the body FASTER than table sugar (as is honey)! So, keep it down to a minimum, if you're watching weight or diabetes. The upside would be more fiber and some vitamins and minerals. But you can get those in supplements.

Also, if you're in the tropics, ANY fruit can carry bacteria and parasites that can result on "Montezuma's revenge" to severe infestation with worms or amoebic dysentery!

a full tummy. and a no fat diet. But if you ate that same thing everyday you lose the benefits because variety is very immportian in a daily diet to help cover all your vitamins.

You can eat a cantalope whole?

I am impressed. I need to chop mine up to eat it.

Downside would be the skin and seeds. Yuck!

I can't think of any downsides. They contain vitamins we need and have no fat.
