Well, that's not exactly true.
It's possible to have an extremely healthy heart without turning a single sprint. It does take some exertion, though, and that may be hard to do through walking alone.
Walking uphill (like on a treadmill) is capable of providing enough of a workout to keep anyone's heart in shape. Very fit athletes may have difficulty walking fast enough on level ground to maintain a high level of fitness, but most mere mortals will get everything they need from a brisk (4 mph) walk. And there is always running, at well below sprint speeds.
There's nothing wrong with sprinting, so long as the total workout time is at least 20-30 minutes. All that time doesn't need to be sprinting, but the heart rate does have to be elevated for that whole time. And if you can do one sprint after another for 30 minutes, more power to you!

ONLY sprinting or weightlifting produce growth hormone. Walking does not. Walking also is not as effective without the sprinting
Short hard on off bursts strengthen your heart and make it more muscular
Sprinting is important to making your heart more muscular. A few ALL OUT sprints is all you need twice a week
Walking alone is not good enough and jogging is useless.
Humans evolved to walk AND sprint.

or you can sprint for a stronger heart even if not that healthy, I am not the best or worst for that matter in health, but I love a good sprint even if I am fat!!!! I still love to get on the treadmill and do intervals of walking with running. I try to go at least one-two minute run segments if I can. usually I manage two - four bouts of the running before I am tired and have to walk to wane down. I also sprint with my dog. she seems to enjoy it.
I can't go far but I do it because i enjoy it and not trying to run a race, which I would surly lose without a doubt. for a good source of info on this try fit or fat by covert bailey, and I googled running in highwire press on the net and they found higher intensity shorter workouts were better for fitness at distance at lower speeds. if you want to be able to walk 2 miles easily sprint some while brisk walking for 20 minutes workout. have recovery periods if your not used it.
then when you do walk those 2 miles will be alot easier. short anerobic exercise to achieve long aerobic benefits. what a bargain.

"Wrong. A "brisk walk" has been proven to be as effective
as jooging, and you don't have the "heel strike," you do in your
jogging. <}:-})
