It's just an excuse to eat meat.
Only grains are harvested with big machines and that is what the majority of food animals are fed with. People that eat meat and other animal products are responsible for the death of the field animals as well as the death and torture of the factory farmed animals. Anyone that uses this argument is the actual hypocrite. They are responsible for even more deaths of field animals than vegans are to top it off.
Another thing that they fail to mention is that these animals aren't deaf or incapable of fleeing so they should be able to run away from the big scary machine.

Just about anytime a machine is operated (cars, tractors, planes) there is a chance that it will come into fatal contact with some sort of animal. I imagine it is true. However, what he is failing to recognize is the fact that eating veggies and meat kills more animals than simply eating veggies, even if harvesting does have a few casualties. So, if someone is vegetarian for the "do not kill" reason, then they are still serving their conscience well be decreasing greatly, though perhaps not completely, the number of animals killed for their food.

What you must remember is that the animals that are eaten also require vegetables to eat...as many vegetables as a person could have lived off of. So eating meat would not save the animals that are killed in the harvesting process (bugs, mice, etc...the same things that end up under the tires of cars and buses everyday...going to walk everywhere too?).

Lot of the animals live off the land, and what left from the harvest the animals will eat, and there always more then enough food out there for them.

As =^-^= pointed out, yes, animals are killed in the harvesting process--small rodents, bugs, etc. However, please remember that it takes between three and sixteen pounds of plant matter to produce a pound of animal food, depending on the animal, so meat eaters kill even MORE animals than just the animals they're eating.
