There is a company called Quorn in the UK which makes incredibly realistic-looking and tasting, fake-steaks and chicken breasts, bacon strips, etc.
Theoretically, since they are made from mushroom protein and contain no animal products whatsoever, a vegan should not be opposed to eating this at all - or have I got it wrong?

They shouldn't be opposed to eating it but, for many, the choice to be a vegan is about eating whole and natural foods. Making fake versions of meat is just not part of that ideal. It depends on the particular vegan but I'd guess that you can cook simpler foods and hit the mark.

Try marinating some zucchini in olive oil and herbs. Its barbecues up great!

There is a vegan fake steak by a German company called Viana (www.viana.com). They make all sorts of vegan analogues--a delicious chickin fillet, nuggets, sausage, gyro, and a Cowgirl Veggie Steak.

I tried Quorn when I first went veggie, but didn't really like it. I introduced it to my boyfriend, who's been veg longer than I have, and he loves the stuff. Now that I'm vegan, Quorn is off the menu for me, as it has egg whites.

I don't think there's anything wrong with analogues--if they make it easier for people to go and stay vegetarian, well, that's a plus, isn't it?

Quorn steaks are not vegan because Quorn is run by a bunch of morons.

If they were, there would be no problem with with eating fake meat.

Apparently not!

Q: Are Quorn products suitable for a Vegan Diet?
A: No. Since all Quorn products contain a small amount of egg white, and most also contain milk ingredients, they are not suitable for vegans.

Quorn isnt vegan..it contains egg (In the US anyway). There are products that are vegan though...but it would depend on the person if they would eat them or not.

I'm vegetarian and love Quorn. It's widely available in the US now.

I wouldn't have any interest in eating it just because I don't like the taste of fake meat products, probably being raised without meat has something to do with that. But I think these things are great for people who do like the taste of meat but don't like the ethics of eating it.

I don't think a vegan would be opposed to eating this. As long as it has no animal products in it, it should be fine. I'm a vegetarian and I eat all sorts of veggie burgers, hot dogs, etc.

Nothing wrong with it. It's a matter of preferance. Some veg'ans like fake meat and some don't.
