My mom asked me to ask this question for her.So ya ok....

Well, my little brother is turning 2 on December 6TH. We are trying to decide between 2 themes: The Backyardigans (a cute TV show for little kids) or Superman. We just can't decide. If you don't know the Backyardigans, go to noggin.com and look for them( they are a cartoon). Also, what kind of food could we serve? There isn't really a budget, but not to over the top. We also need some game ideas for the little kids. And anything else you can think of would be helpful. Thankyou!

With the Backyardigans, you could do more things, like plan an adventure in the backyard. There are plenty of party supplies for the Backyardigans. I went to Birthday Supply Depot and bought a party pack for my sons 4th birthday party. He had a blast, and everything came in the party pack that we needed.

We did a superhero theme for my son's third birthday. I told everyone to dress up as a superhero (commercial or their own made up superhero). We had supermen, astronauts, power rangers, a super leprechaun, and a few others that I don't remember. It was really fun seeing what people came up with.

Two year olds don't really play games well so I wouldn't do games. Do an activity instead. For my son's second birthday I poured the cake batter on cookie sheets (with the rim, not airbake type) and baked it. Then I cut out shapes with cookie cutters and had the kids decorate the cakes with colored buttercream frosting (two batches of frosting made eight colors). It was a total sugar-fest but the kids loved it and the parents were talking about it for months. For his third birthday, the activity was to play outside (it was spring time) and then decorate paper lunch bags for their pinata candy & toys. I and other adults wrote the kids names on the bags and gave the kids markers, crayons and lots of stickers for the bags. If you do the superhero theme, you could do a little contest and give each kid an award for some aspect of their costume (make them up so they are funny or make the kids feel good about themselves). Have the kids show what their superhero does. Awards could be for "best flyer", "most colorful", "best princess superhero", etc.

Backyardigans sounds like a great theme, esp. if it iwll be in the back yard! Unique, too, though it will be harder to find party gear in that theme. May have to DL some stuff off the Noggin website and make your own invites, banners, etc.
