Ugh... I know...
People have this image of vegetarians… they rely on a few stereotypes to judge us all.
It really gets annoying sometimes...
I agree with you completely! I have NEVER bothered a meat-eater about what they eat... but in their mind... they think I have or something. By me just eating a veggie burger... to them it's like me saying, "Meat is murder, I'm better than you, you all better adopt my vegetarian ways or else I'll protest outside of a KFC near your house!” They imagine that that is what I'm thinking and take my eating a veggie burger as an invitation to lecture me about the way I choose to live my life.
For example, just yesterday I was eating some rice and carrots. My boyfriends friend (a friend that I actually think is a cool guy) says, "eww what are you eating?” I'm like, "Um rice..."
Then he says, "One of these days I'm going to bring over a huge roast pig with an apple in its mouth."
I have no idea where that came from... really... Did I ask for it or something? 'Cause I'm sooo weird for eating rice...
We are considered preachy because we are pushed by meat-eaters to defend our views all the time.
And a lot of us feel strongly about the way we live.
We are supposed to just sit back and take s h i t as they lecture us on what they think is wrong with our lifestyle??? I don’t think so…
Phew... That feels good!
OK ::rant over::
:]
Anyways, I wrote a blog about a few of my experiences with this kind of thing. You are my friend on 360 anyways but I'll just add the link:

Well I can assure you that not all of us meat eaters are 'hostile' towards vegetarians. I'm glad you don't preach or anything like that, those are the vegans that bug me. I'm sorry you're getting made fun of by some meat eaters. I personally don't understand why someone would make fun of someone based on if they eat meat or vegetables, it's a person's personal choice what they choose to eat. Please don't generalize us. Were not all bad I assure you :)

OH GOSH. I TOTALLY agree. There are so many meat-eaters out there that seem to want to think they are better than us. I even see some on UrbanDicitionary when I look up "Peta!"
I am tired of the: "Ewe, look, it's a vegan/vegetarian girl! She must hate humans and be crazy and be underweight and stupid and ugly and she's going to die! Omg!" And then they walk past us telling us how they had a "big juicy burger" last night. Oh and I can't forget this man at a farm I visited, walked by a pig, and said "You smell like a pork chop!" Sigh, and that chicken I saw walking around by the farm. Guess what the meat eater said? "OH, THERES DINNER!"
I mean, and they knew %100 that I was standing right there. I was seriously about to tackle them, jerks!
And get this, meat-eaters complain all the time about how all of the vegans/vegetarians insult THEM! Interesting, huh?
I just ignore the teasing and such. They're just jealous, that's the way to look at it. :D

Some people feel that they can vindicate and justify their own bad habits by criticizing veg'ans and constantly finding an argument against the lifestyle. There will always be individuals looking for a critical flaw in the diet. People that are really comfortable with their diets, bodies, and overall health don't need to criticize, question, or slander others. That goes for omnivores and veg*ans alike. If you notice veg*ans don't go into the general food section looking for arguments. In real life most veg*ans and omnivores at comfortable weights don't bother others about their diets. They mind their own business.

its tiresome, i agree.
There really is little point in trying to figure out the trolls on here. We used to be able to guess how old they were by thier level of "trolling", you know - teen, 20's, 50's...you could kinda tell.
But now, now i can't think of any age group that can type that would behave like they do - i'm just glad i don't know any of them in real life.
I guess thats the crux, you can choose your friends, you can't choose who comes on here to destroy the forum.
griffyn below has, possibly unintentionally, typified the behaviour of the trolls we get. They seem to know "lots" of vegetarians and vegans and we "all" preach.....simply not true, and judging by looking at the real world, that sort of generalisation doesn't really carry any credibility.
They also say things like "....know a few vegetarians and every one of them is lethargic and sick al the time."
or perhaps "bacon and eggs" in response to someone asking for a vegetarian breakfast
Often after posting things like the above, they end answers with blatantly hypocritical comments like "Whenn they stop bothering me and preaching to me......"
Not saying Griffyn is a troll, not at all, just saying the response is very similar.

i am an omnivore and every time i meet a vegetarian, i get crap from them...
"you're so cruel! how could you eat that?"
"eating meat contributes to global warming! you are killing us all!"
"you're going to die!"
"how could you eat flesh? that's disgusting!"
"if you really care about the planet, you would be vegan!"
well guess what? i've tried tofu, and it made me vomit!
my doctor says i'm perfectly healthy, low cholesterol, and i'm very active.
and i don't like being called a "meat eater"....it's not like we eat only meat and no fruits or veggies...it's called omnivore people!
don't act so self righteous...
and i'm almost positive i will be reported for this, but i don't care...let the thumbs down commence!!!

If so, i would have to say you are one of the rare exceptions. i have know many vegetarians during my life and with one exception they have all either tried to covert me, made snide comments about "how I could eat poor animals" or tried to give me literature. Vegetarians (at least the ones I have met) seem like Jehovah Witnesses) Whenn they stop bothering me and preaching to me then I will stop harassing them.
