The current thinking is that a low carbohydrate diet is the best for diabetes. There are nutritionists who educate people in the use of the diabetic diet and it is often free. Check with your doctor or local hospital to find out about classes. It is well worth it as a borderline diabetic can often stave off diabetes for quite some time with proper diet and exercise.

There is no such thing as a borderline diabetic, either you are diabetic or you are not.I am 68 and I am a type ll diabetic (have been for 30 years ) Your father should cut back on starches (bread, potatoes, rice etc ) and stay away from any kind of sugars (including fructose ) Keep his weight under control, and exercise. If he does this, chances are he will not become diabetic.I would also suggest he educate himself on diabetes,You can find good information on the Internet (I mean information by doctors ).Tell your dad that I wish him well.Like I said,I have lived with this disease for many years and do not wish to see him go through what I do every day.I also have Neuropathy from the knees down.By the way,was your Dad in Vietnam and exposed to agent orange? that is the cause of my diabetes. If he was,he should get in touch with the VA rep in his area.

I would say one, there is kind of a borderline diabetic. This is someone who's blood sugars flucuate but they are not having the full blown issues of a diabetic, that is, they are still producing and using their insulin suffieciently but are at a higher risk of becoming diabetic. However your father, or even you can go speak with a dietitian/nutritionist about his diet and they can give you the best information. Or you can contact the ADA at diabetes.org

I think you can get pamphets from any public clinics or library to get books for foods for borderline diabetic. The best bet is to do exercise regularly and make him sweat a little some on a daily basis. I think he shouldn't eat sugar regularly. Occasionally, once or twice a week in a very small portion is okay. My father has his blood sugar level well-controlled and get a pass on every blood sugar level check up. He is 59, and do exercise on a daily basis.

From the research I've done, reading many articles and books on general health issues, I have found everything to point to the fact that everyone would be better off eating a diet for diabetics, minus all the artificial sweeteners and such. Natural sweeteners the best of which is Stevia, you can find it in many forms in health food stores, also contains FOS which actually helps glucose metabolism. The purer the diet the better for anyone, if it's manmade beware!

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BORDERLINE DIABETIC. You are either type 1 type 2 or not at all. And if you are one, then you should limit the amount of noodles you consume. Noodles are almost straight carb and will make your blood sugars skyrocket

If you want to eat truly healthy, lose body fat consistently, normalize your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, prevent cancer, and even boost your brain health and energy levels, you may have heard all over the news that the Paleo Diet has been found to be one of the best methods of achieving all of these benefits compared to any other popular "fad" diets out there. Go here https://tinyurl.im/aHLxY
The truth is that the Paleo Diet will never be considered a fad because it's just simply the way that humans evolved to eat over approximately 2 million years. And eating in a similar fashion to our ancestors has been proven time and time again to offer amazing health benefits, including prevention of most diseases of civilization such as cancer, heart disease, alzheimers, and other chronic conditions that are mostly caused by poor diet and lifestyle. One of the biggest misunderstandings about the Paleo Diet is that it's a meat-eating diet, or a super low-carb diet. This is not true
