Well here is the deal, tonight I am having a hard time with my sugars they wont go down no matter what i do. I took a walk took extra insulin according to my plan, but they are ranging between 450-500. I took a ketone urine test said medium amounts of ketones. I am starting to have a hard time catching my breath, peeing a lot drymouth and not thinking to straight. I am thinking that i should proly go to the ER since all the stuff i am doing at home is not working. Does this sound like I might be going into DKA?

I suffer from high blood sugars also. Last Saturday I had a blood sugar level of 583. I debated whether or not I needed to go too. Upon arriving at the ER the doctor said that 400 is the magic number. Anything lower than that you should try to get it down on your own. Over that you need help. The dry mouth is due to your body trying to flush the sugar from your system. Drink lots of WATER and go to the ER. The longer you wait the more permanent damage you are doing to your body. Hang tough, you can do it!

I'm sure as everyone has stated go to the ER. Im sure you have. But just so everyone knows, if you have ketones DO NOT exercise!!!! if you have them and exercise they get worse and you so too. Thats more than likely what spun you into the start of DKA. If you have ketones, take the extra insulin, check your insulin as it sounds like it may no longer be good, and if all else when you feel that bad, just go to the ER, it costs a lot, but its better than being really sick and getting sent there by ambulance.

I would absolutly go to the er, DKA is nothing to mess with, if left untreated it could be fatal. At least in the er they can manage your sugars better and give you some advice on why this is happening. Do you have buring while urinating? Go to the ER now that is the best bet. Since your sugar is so high have someone take you.

I'm almost 38, so I'm definitely a part of Generation X, ... yet I never really connected with the whole lost-in-this-world, slacker persona that we were all supposed to relate to. Probably because my parents and siblings were all older -- when I was born, my sibs were 16, 17, and 18 -- they all grew up in the '50s and '60s. Anyway, I guess if I had to pick one, it would be "Rusty Cage" by Soundgarden. Just because I can relate to feeling like an outsider, and wanting to break free from the things that hold me down and/or make me similar to other people. My family was also pretty screwed up, so I can also relate this song to wanting to break free from their controlling manipulation, abuse, and all that wonderful stuff ...

I am only mildly diabetic and took insulin only for the 2 days I was in the hospital with surgery. They have this new kind of insulin that feels just like a scratch on your skin, not like a needle. I think you should go straight to the ER and ask them to call your PCP tonight. Please go! NOW! OK? I hope you are under better control by tomorrow and that it continues to improve until you are much much better!

Okay, so you have about 11 answers before me saying you should go. I'm the lucky number 12 and I am ordering you to go now. If it takes you this long just to go, I can only imagine what kind of heart attacks you are going to give people on here the next time.
