I am usually the first to criticize people for saying relgion is the number one cause of unnecessary conflict, but there are also very violent actions that happen to people who are religious by those who are not. So please don't act as if all violence would dissapate and the world would suddenly be all smiles and high IQs if religion were not around.

It's BECAUSE of their religion that the Chinese communists are murdering the Buddhist monks. And every single thing that occurs in their lives, even their murder, is part of their spiritual growth and evolvment. That is why they don't fight back.

The problem is that all ideologies can become institutionalised religion. Nazi germany was caused by extremist nationalism, just as China's actions in Tibet are a different, but similarly dangerous form of this. If you follow anything blindly you are dangerous. Up till recently, theistic religion held the major power in the world, which is why it was responsible for so much evil. Now that religion's power is waning, other ideologies can take its place, and commit similar evils.

Question EVERYTHING. NO belief is sacred, whether it has to do with some old guy in the sky, your country or whatever else.

Not all religions create violence, and not all violence is created by religion.
however, it is very clear that if religious fervor would be eliminated from all religions and extremist ideologies (which are very similar to religions), a great part of the violence in the world would disappear.
But nations would still fight over material things, and some people will still perform acts of violence.

Simple. ALL Generalizations are flawed - including this one.

There will be always exceptions to the "rule".

There are religions that are non-violent, there are religious people who can (& do) think. Unfortuantely there are those who chose to express the same faiths differently.
