Bactrum is an antibiotic usually given for urinary tract infections. Why didn't your girlfriend just ask her mom or was she snooping where she was not supposed to be? I'm sure her mom would have gladly told her the purpose of the medication.

By the way, pliva is just the name of the pharmaceutical company who produced the medication and 334 is the indentification number of the drug.

Any and all questions on drugs should only be answered by your vet - especially ones that people may have on OTC medications. There are some that are safe and many that are not safe for dogs. Before giving your dog anything you need to check with your vet. Edit - toxicity symptoms vary with the medication, dosage and many other things. Symptoms are not always obvious - can even show up a day or so later. If there is a possibility of toxicity you need to call your vet or emergency clinic for advice. There is also animal poison control center that can advise you. Sometimes there is not much you can do to stop poisoning once a substance is ingested.
