It's as a result of the great American dream. In times past we had prophets, since 1776 all we want are profits.

That's a really good question. The trouble these days is, how do we know the difference between a prophet and a nut job? Maybe there never were prophets back then. Is it possible that all those stories were made up to prove points? I'm not saying that the information in the Bible is not valuable because it is, but it makes you wonder.

We need to cling to God to know them.
When we get stuck to religion or to sin of the world, just like the parisees and levites, we will not be able to see the prophets. The parisees and levites were accusing Jesus because they thought they were righteous. But when we let ourselves into God's hands, He will lead us.
Please read here how God changed my life,

I also want to testify that all the people(Evangelist/Prophets/Apostles) who do God's work in our place, I had thought earlier that they were telling about God and earning money thru it and always in my heart wondered what their inspiration was. But when I received Holy Spirit, I knew what their inspiration was.
So ask our God who is merciful :)

The Catholic Church is New Jerusalem which was prophecy in old testament. Yes! In the Catholic Church has prophets who are important saint like Frances of Assises, Teresa De Avila, Juan De la crosses, and others. Who directs the church when it seem to veer off away from the teachings of Christ like prophets of the old testament.

Go to a corner of a street. If you find a guy there preaching christianity feast your eyes out.
Or you could wait till the End of Times and see a WHOLE bunch of them.

As you know, prophets used to be in B.C. times. They were here only to foresee Christ's arrival to Earth. Well, in my opinion good prophets can be found only/most times in monasteries (hey, stop laughing).

I have often prayed "is there not a righteous man among us?" We as individuals have to independently be the righteous to make up the lack. How to indentify? Not sure. But I can smell a skunk before I see it. So can you. So too is it with a deceiver.

Most of the prophecies had to deal with the Birth of Jesus and that has since passed, however they are modern prophecies that have come true. God works in amazing ways!
