What you are describing is not Dyslexia. But there is something called Aphasia. If this isn't just a recent thing, something that has happened over time, you may have the Neurological problem called Aphasia. I have it from having a head injury and also a stroke made it worse. Concentrating can help some, but it's not from talking too fast, though people around you may think that is what is causing it and tell you to just slow down.
Do you go to say a word and it's like it just disappears some times. People with Aphasia often also have problems recalling numbers and names of people and places. DO YOU?
Speech therapy does not help, it's a problem with the brain.
Have you had any seriouis head injuries? Did the problem begin with in a year of having the head injury.
Is it possibel you've had a stroke. Many people have milder strokes and donot realize it. Such as their speech is slurred one day, then improves, but they have problems talking after that. Having a tremendous headache, then the problem occuring after that.
Depending on your age, here is what I suggest. If you have had a stroke and don't know it, you still need to be treated. WHY? Once you have a stroke, you are at high risk for having another more massive one.
Whether you are an adult or child, you need to get into see a Neurologist. Better to rule out a stroke or brain injury, then to let it go and end up with even worse problems. So if you are a teen, ask Mom adn dad and have them read this E-mail if they don't think it's serious. Do they want you to end up being unable to speak and find out if theyy'd taken you to see a nuerologist someting coudl have been done. Most primary care doctors unless they see your speach problem occuring often around them, will just write it off even if you complain about it. So get your parent or parents to insist that you get a full Neuological workup.
There is also one other thing that can cause it adn you need to be 100% honest about what you are seeing, feeling. In males 15 to about 30, one of the early signs of Schizophrenia can be speach problems called Word Salad. Where they think they are saying one thing, but others can't understand what htey are saying and say it just sounds like they are saying a lot of different words that are unconnected to each other. I don't think this is what is happening to you, since you are very aware there is something wrong and a person with Schizophrenia usually is not.
Your brain is still developing if you are under age 25, so getting the right help can be the difference between clearing this problem up totally and being like me, stuck with the issue for life.
When I'm stressed the problem is more obvious. So write down all your symptoms. Like when is it worse. Does stress make it worse. Be sure to clarify that it isn't stuttering. Stuttering is when you try to talk and you struggle with each word. It isn't about having the wrong word come out or saying something backwards.
Here is a sentence I once said, heard myself and it was when I knew their was a problem. I was driving and told my friend. "Skate pond, be weber nice wouldn't it free in winter." I had ment to say, "Won't it be nice if they would free the pond at weber so people could skate on it for free during the winter." Is that the problem you are having? If so that isn't from talking too fast, I promise you.
I also use to do what you say you've done, saying a simular word, but not the right word.
Sadly my Aphasia did not get diagnosed until I was having a test for vertigo and it showed up really bad, worse and I told them I had the problem a lot, and they said, it was called Aphasia and was probably caused by my head injuries and stroke. It was too late for me to get the help I should have had after the head injuries and stroke.
Learning to focus helps some, so you can feel it before it happens. YOu can actually feel that you are not going to say the word right, tell yourself stop and re think the sentence before saying it. I still have the problem, but it's mostly controlled and others do not see it unless I'm under a lot of stress or really tired.
Again if you are young still, your brain can be helped to heal itself once the cause is found, so get on it now.
If you are a teen at home, make sure to ask your parents about any serious head injuries you've had at all in your life. A nuerologist needs to know every head injury you've had. They need to know about any black outs. Any serious headaches. Try to figure out when the problem began and anything that makes it worse, like not getting enough sleep. Make sure to be honest about any drug usage as drugs can damage the brain in ways most don't even realize.
Keep track before going to see a Neurologist, of how often it happens, in what situations it happens. Tell them I said to, or they'll think yyou are obsessive, since most people don't think to keep track of such things, but it will help him/her to make a proper diagnosis. Also if you are having weakness on one side of your body, even if not horrible, but if you know you are mention that as well. Any problems with feeling weaker. Any dizziness. Any blackouts, and whether or not you were drinking or taking drugs within a twenty four hour before the blackouts occurred.
Look at what might be stessing you as well. Stress can interfer with speech. So look back to when it began, were you upset about anything, overly stressed.
Also do this and see if it helps. Use this breathing technique starting today. See if you have the problem well. This breathing technique helps the mind to focus and helps the body to relax. You stand if possible and breath in very slowly and deeply through the nose, with the mouth closed. Then you breath out through the nose very slowly, as slowly as you can. If you get a little dizzy at first, hold onto a counter or sit if you have to, but standing is best. Then you breath in again through your nose as slowly and deeply as possible, then out slowly through your mouth. You do this for about five minutes. First thing in the morning, then once during mid day, then at night. It really helps hte body in many ways. Try it, see if by doing it you find you have less problems with your speech. If you do have less problems, it could be the problem was stress related. If you find it is, try writing about your thoughts, everything, even if you don't save it, it helps get stress out of hte mind and body. IF you do the breathing mid day, and a friend asks what's up, tell them it's just a deep breathing you are trying as it's good for straight, which is true becuase it helps better oxygenate the body, which helps the muscles work better.
Good luck, don't let it go, if it keeps up you relaly need to ask your parents if you are a teen or if you are an adult, you need to get yourself into see a Neurologist. If you are a teen, your parents should try to find one who works with young adults, teens, as they often are better about not writing problems off in teens and young adults as some adult doctors do.
Good Luck, hope it's better soon.
