Ok So there's this guy thats selling a car...Which will be my first car[I'm 16 yay!!!]... Here's the stats:

-96 Mitsubishi Galant
-Transmission broken [Therefore its not drivable]
-AC/Heat works
-4 door [passenger side door slightly broken]
-Paint fading slightly
-Battery works but is uncharged
-Power windows and locks
-Leather seats clean interior
-All this for $350

My dad is a mechanic and can get a used transmission for under $200 and he says he can fix the door...All the battery needs in a boost...I don't know the mileage though...Do you think its a good deal?

The car looks like this::

Except for faded pain on the outside...The exterior looks really nice too!

It sounds like a good deal to me because your dad can help you get it running. It is a very economical car to run, parts will be inexpensive, and you can pick from a variety of junked parts for major hassles. It is a very simple car which requires little maintenance. For the money involved you will not find many cars that will run for long. Unless your budget will allow for a car costing four times as much money, I would grab it!

EDIT: Police are death on red, speeding cars - drive with care and good luck.

I think that would be fantastic and with your dad being a mechanic he will be able to save you loads on repairs and such if they come up.

By the way, It's good to see a 16 year old who is practical for a change. I just saw on here two kids complaining that their parents won't buy them a Mercedes, Mustang, or Hummer. Meanwhile you will be on the road and enjoying life while they will be at home crying.

Good luck!

In your situation since your dad is a mechanic and the car is very inexpensive I would say you got a good deal. Most cars like this cost up to 5 grand.

For $550 (with transmission) you can hardly go wrong! The Galant is a nice car! A lot better than -my- first car! In fact it's probably better than the car I have now!

I would look for another car. It looks as if he has not taken care of this car at all. You will be saving a bit of money now on this purchase but in the long run i'm willing to bet that it will cost you more than if you had bought a properly working car.

If your dad is a mechanic it might be worth a chance, but I'd spend the extra cash and get a rebuilt tranny or maybe Dad can do it himself. It could save you the aggravation of replacing it again.

Is your first car, why wouldn't it be a deal. Specially if your dad is a mechanic he can tell you better than we can weather is a good deal or not. He is there and can go see the vehicle with you, we are here and can only write based on what you tell us............

If your dad is a mechanic, have him rebuild the tranny before he installs it in your car. You never know how USED it is. It could be worse than yours.Make sure you get the title

A car for $350 is a GREAT deal, BUT be sure that your dad is sure he can fix it, otherwise you are buying $350 worth of junk ...

you can't beat a decent running car for less than $600. Go for it.
