Because dogs are a domesticated animal that generally lives WITH a family, even sharing the home with them. Pigs are kept generally as livestock.

Intelligence has little to do with it, I feel. Dogs are better companions and serve a wider range of purposes for humans.

I honestly don't care if you are a veggan, I eat pork and I just did a piece of pork tenderloin mmmmmtasty. I eat more meat than I do vegetables. Which probably curdles your tofu!

dogs are used as pets and tools. You dont kill things that are more usefully alive.
pigs are used for food mostly, though I could imagine that you could easy train a pig.

I guess it's just tradition you know. It;s how western culture is.
