According to many christians all sin, whether it be lying or murder, is equal in God's eyes so, if that is so the punishment for all crimes commited should be the same. Since the penalty for murder is death should the penalty for lying also be death? Should the penalty for all sexual sin be death as it was back then?

You forgot ask if rape victims should be put to death:

(Deuteronomy 22:23-24 NAB)

If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife.

It is clear that God doesn't give a damn about the rape victim. He is only concerned about the violation of another mans "property".

***why were there different earthly penalties for each in the Old Testament*** ***the Lake of Fire is eternal, wouldn't that mean all sin gets equal punishment?*** The difference between the two is obvious by your answer. The earthly penalties occur on earth. As there is no "Lake of Fire" on earth, it is not an earthly punishment. What happens on earth is during the time of grace. As you are alive on earth, you can repent. When you die, you will stand before your Creator (who made you with a purpose) and He asks you to give you an account of what you did with your time while on earth according to His purpose. This is the judgment day and the opportunity to repent has ended. Judgment Day is the time for God to judge His creation. The conclusion will either be Heaven or Hell By contrast, atheists believe they no intelligence went into their being made. Therefore, they have no purpose or reason for being. There can be no sin as one's purpose is what defines what is "right" from what is "wrong." Mathematically, it looks like: Dust = Life = Dust From the atheist's position, there is no Heaven or Hell and therefore, there can be no penalty for doing wrong. Therefore, it is the atheist's position that can not separate what is right from what is wrong. So the atheist has no basis to say that what Hitler did was wrong and what someone else did was right. If they did, there would be no meaning behind the words because all paths conclude at the exact same place, dust. Without a heaven and hell, there are only temporary differences in appearance between right and wrong ....but this time is brief and then even the differences in appearance disappear. Hope this helps

In the ultimate sense, the penalty for lying is death. Not just the physical death, but the second death as well.

Which is why Jesus took the punishment upon Himself. That while I am the liar, and He never lied, I can still have life.

All sins being equal in God's eye means that all sins deserve separation from God. In other words, all sins deserve death. But you must read the law code given to Israel, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. That means in human administration of justice, the punishment should fit the crime. Humans need gradiations to protect other humans from abuse and sin. In human terms, the effects of one sin, lying, are not as severe as the effects of others, murder or theft. As humans we try to limit the effects of sins on other humans, in God's eye all sins are a form of rebellion and rebellion is always crushed...even in human affairs.

If the penalty for lying is death, all humans besides infants would be struck down.

And if all 'sin' is that easy to punish, why doesn't he just kill us all now? he could play etch-a-sketch end of the world again. send another flood or whatever.

eh. not like i believe in this stuff anyway. just pointing out the ridiculousness of it all.

Youre trying to combine 'church' and state.
religion and government are 2 separate things.

The punishment for murder is not death...if you are CHRISTian.
CHRISTians and jews are different.

And thejudge of ones crimes will be done by GOD when the time has come.

And please define what sexual sin you are talking about?
Because many of what catholic and CHRISTians consider sexual sin is sins they themselves have created.

So, it would be hard to actually answer this since it will be GOD and not pastors and priests who are going to judge these deeeds.

This question is asked by someone who seems not to have a true grasp of religion, only goes from what others have told them
