No medical procedure is effective 100% of the time, but preventing prostate disease is one of the main benefits of neutering. It's a minor surgery, and would probably be easier on your dog than any other available treatments. It's probably your best option.

Neutering your dog may help lower the chance of the prostate problem. You might want to talk to more than one vet to find out if it's true.

At 10 yrs old, you really need to know that it'll help, before putting him through a surgery at his age.

Castration (neutering) is routinely done on male dogs at 4 to 6 months of age, and part of the reason is to prevent these kinds of problems later in life. I don't know if it will help, but it certainly can't hurt.

Yes,it should help,as intact male dogs are prone to prostate problems. The cause of the problem is testosterone, which will be reduced when the dog is neutered, thus ( hopefully ) causing the prostate to shrink.

Here is an interesting link for you;it's mostly about prostate problems in dogs.

Neutered dogs have a much less chance of prostate cancer. Neutering at a young age could have prevented this from happening.

If you don't get him castrated, the problem will likely worsen, and he may even get cancer and will have to be put down. It really is up to you, but unless you want him to be in more pain than he is now, you should go with it.

It may help. It will reduce the amount of testosterone is his system, and hopefully prevent any more prostate enlargement, which can eventually lead to him having to be put down. Do get a 2nd opinion, though.

Not sure but you could either go with it or not. At that age I would get a second opinion to see if being neutered is the only solution!
