OK, Satan knows that Jesus is God.... So Satan is hoping to toy with Jesus' emotions and or a weakness. So by telling Jesus, that if he does what he (Satan) says and Jesus agrees. Jesus would then be bound to serve Satan. Jesus is Holy. He will and would stand by his word forever! Satan is a deceiver and a liar hoping that after this 40 days/nights of fasting he could use his skills to trap Jesus. I am sure that God the Father gave Satan permission to sift Jesus at what Satan believed would be his most vulnerable moment. This just touches the subject.

In verse 8 it says Jesus was offered the "kingdoms" of the world. Kingdoms are run by kings who are human, and in many cases evil. Satan was offering to give back what he had spoiled by introducing sin into the world. But Jesus would have to worship him first which is of course a deception from Satan. If Jesus would have worshiped The Devil, Jesus would not have had anything. The devil would have had Him!
Thank Jesus, He did not fall for the devil's lies.

We know from biblical history that Satan has been on the Earth since the time of creation. He was with Adam and with Eve in the garden of Eden.

He existed at the time of Christ's life and still exists to this day. He is very much an immortal ruler, like a self-called magistrate, of the world. He feels very much like he owns it. He has had his hands influencing quite a lot of people and events during his life-long tenure...that's pretty difficult to say you don't own anything when you have had so much, "power" for so long.

I think what Satan meant to say is that he was willing to share his influential power on the world unlike Christ who served missions and only visited certain cities and countries in that area to fulfill his mortal destiny.

Christ could have accomplished so much more in reaching the entire world if he had accepted Satan's offer. Christ knew it wasn't Satan's to give, God is ruler over all things. This is Satan's own self deception that he thinks he has any power at all and also, a deception to others that he has any power to give.

At this juncture in Christ's experience with His human creation, here, on earth at this time, you notice that prior to this stand-off with Satan the devil, Jesus prepared for this special event by fasting in the desert for 40 days and nights - to be attuned to the spiritual realm. Satan threw physical - material things Jesus' way and since Jesus was spiritually attuned- He resisted the temptations thrown His way, by Satan. Remember; Satan, up to this time in the earth's history - ran the planet and has authority over the fallen angels
[called "demons"] too. Jesus was taking the "reigns" from Satan, at this time (this is why Satan tried to have all the young children murdered by Herod- thus, attempting to take the life of Christ, as a child). Satan foreknew all the prophesies about the Messiah and wasn't going to give up ownership of the planet to Christ (Jesus will receive full ownership at His return to earth). When Jesus died on the cross - Satan was defeated with his hold with sin and temptation over mankind.
Christ paid the "price" with His life and Satan was defeated.

Doesnt Jesus's answer to that explain this..if i remember right...it went something like..thou shalt not tempt the son of God..something along those lines..almost as if Jesus was trying to say..leave me alone..stay away..i want to have nothing to do w/u.
Lets say u are a billionaire,i am a commoner, i get to see you at a big function where i was a bartender..all along i envied your wealth and fame....when you passed by the bar i stepped down to you and said;sir how about some free drinks on the house plus a Bentley from my boss
what was my aim...i knew you were a billionaire rolling in doe w/a fleet of bentleys..all i wanted was to be seen w/u a big shot ,maybe buddy up..and then slowly get closer
you are Jesus and i am the devil trying to get close a trillionth of an inch is good for me just to get my feet in,,but how can i proceed if u totally ignoreme...i think thats what happened here.

Ok, Adam and Eve, right...God gave them power and dominion over the earth (or the world for this answer sake). Satan deceives Eve, Eve tricks Adam; Satan takes the power and dominion from them because when they did what Satan wanted them to do, although he lied to them (deceived them) they obeyed his will and in doing so they broke or breeched God's trust (or appointment of them to have or possess the power and dominion over the earth or the world). Mankind from the begginning has had power over Satan, but Satan deceives quite well so mankind often gives up much to Satan when we do his bidding instead of keeping faith to God and doing what we know is best...Sooo, by the time Jesus arrives he has to contend with satan on the level of Satan as ruler of the world because Satan illgot that position from Adam and Eve. So in a sense Jesus tricks Satan into thinking that he could kill Jesus for good, but Jesus go to hell after death and proves his power over Satan and his followers by taking it back. (light always put out/away darkness) So now when we ask for it Jesus will restore out power and dominion because he died and arose. Until Jesus' returns in all of his glory Satan will remain to rule all over the ones he can keep deceived...so why'd u ask anyway...

Satan was trying to tempt Jesus as a man to see if he had any human weakness.Jesus, although He was God, also had human nature like everyone else.

ADDITIONAL INFOMATION.
Jesus was led by the Spirit out into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil. He fasted forty days and forty nights, after which he was hungry, and the tempter came and said to him"if you are the Son of God,tell those stones to turn into loaves"But Jesus replied"Scripture says :Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." The Devil then took Jesus to the Holy City and made him stand on the parapet of the Temple."If you are the Son of God,he said "throw yourself down;for scripture says"He will put you in his angels'charge, and they will support you on their hands in case you hurt your foot against a stone"Jesus said to him, Scripture also says: "you must not put the Lord your God to the test"
Next, taking Jesus to a very high mountain.the Devil showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendour "I will give you all these' he said,"if you fall at my feet and worship me."Then Jesus replied "Be off, Satan! For Scripture says: "You must worship the Lord your God, and serve him alone".
Then the Devil left him,and angels appeared and looked after him.

Satan was simpy trying to get to Jesus and bring Him down (corrupt Him) by appealing to His fleshly aspect. Actually God gave the world to satan for a time so it was his to give at that time. But since His crucifixion and ressurection Jesus has taken the world back from satan. Jesus is still putting His enemies under His feet. And then He will give the world back to His Father who made it.

Satan obtained the title deed to this earth in the garden of eden when man sinned. God will obtain that title deed back at the 2nd coming of Christ. But now satan does have charge of this earth. God allows that even though, ultimately, God is in charge. 2 Corinthians 4:4 even calls satan the "god of this world". In a parallel passage in Luke 4:5,6 the bible says
" And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: FOR THAT IS DELIVERED UNTO ME AND TO WHOMEVER I WIL I GIVE IT". If you notice, Christ doesn't contest his claim.

Satan is trying to persuade Jesus to turn against his Father,as he tries to do many times and always fails. Jesus has a huge following and Satan would like nothing more than to have that following on his side.Jesus is just to righteous and faithful to allow that to happen.
