I don't understand why woman are materialistic. A guy can drive a nice car that their dad both them, but a guy wanting a girl who is attractive are said to be looking at the outer beauty but not the inner beauty. Both sexes can be superficial. But guys prefering attractive women means they prefer a woman who can produce healthy offspring, right? So girls who want materials, such as a fancy car, why?

Although they both seem superficial from both men on appearance ans from women the material but there is some truth to the basic underlying truth of what that superficiality on both sides may mean. Ultimately for a man a super pretty woman with a knockout body does represent a sex symbol, but also one who can reproduce! and to do that she must be hot in the sheets! Yes superficial but for the guy he could actually like her for more than her looks. For the woman, a nice car means he can provide. It's not just the car. I don't see how just having a car as being an attractor can be the only thing. It might be when a girl is in high school, but college and after wards it has to mean more of a fat bank account. NOW IF HE'S HOT, INTELLIGENT, KIND and CONSIDERATE...well hell he has it going on! LOL.
I think those things just mean both are able to provide in the long run. I'm not saying they are right.. they are distorted let's say that.

So true to the other answers listed earlier. Yes a guy can prefer a good looking girl with the the thought of producing healthy offspring. In the same vein of thought, a girl can prefer a guy who drives a BMW because he gives the appearance of being a good provider. If you want to look at it from a historic point of view, when women kept the home and men hunted, then being a good provider was very important.
Now bring that type of thinking to 2007, if a guy has the type of job and mind set that can support a BMW lifestyle then he will be a good provider for the family.
But if it turns out that the Dad bought the car for his son, then I would lose the son and take a look at Dad! (:>)

First of all, an attractive woman does not necessarily produce "healthy" children. "Ugly" people can be healthy as well. And it is superficial, if that's the reason the girl likes the guy. It could be a coincidence that he has a nice car. Materialistic people are just as superficial as people only concerned with "outer beauty".

Some people don't think it's as superficial as a guy wanting a pretty girl but I find it extremely super-ficial.
Girls that half to have a guy with lots of money and a nice car are shallow and superficial.

If attractiviness indicate fertility, then financial stability indicate the capability of a man to provide for his offsprings. I don't blame guys who want girls with a nice body, I think they have very low standards if that's all they want. I don't want a guy with a BMW, I want a guy with a Maserati, 2 PHDs, 6'2 or taller and a great personality.

actually im a girl myself and i do think its superficial. and not all girls are like that. to be QUITE honest with you, i've only heard of one chick like that and shes not that good girlfriend material. me and the other chick friends i know could care less what the guy drives, im not even exaggerating. they look at the person, not the car. thats a forsure for alot of girls.
