I hear that some fish get really mushy if you freeze them. Anyone had any luck freezing blues?

First cook the bluefish, then you could freeze it. If you filet the fish, then freeze it, the bluefish will have a mushy texture and a foul odor. Bluefish don't freeze well because it is oily.

Macarther is right. Blue Fish do not freeze well unless they are cooked first..Period. I am one of the few in my crowd who happens to eat Bluefish, and I eat it fresh and don't even attempt to freeze it. Bluefish as you were already advised is very oily and some of the edible meat is grayish in color. Add mushy to the color and it's not very appetizing..........

Mac is right on.

(In my best faux Chinese accent) No freezy Blue-fishy!

I hope your "bleeding" the Blues your catching?

"Bleeding" a Blue or Spanish Mac can make a world of difference in flavor!

Just make a deep "slice" right behind the anus of the fish. They will "bleed-out" some of that oily/fishy flavor.

I also ALWAYS soak Blues & Macs in whole milk or Buttermilk. Tames the "taste"!

Hope this helps ya?
