i see what you mean, your basically saying that there is nothing "stock" about the stock cars in NASCAR which i would have to agree with you on. in the past the cars were stock. and i dislike NASCAR for every reason you listed. although i'll watch a bit of it. the main reason i dont like it is because i like how in F1 only the top constuctors and top drivers win championships and races. there are plenty of good drivers in NASCAR and a lot of teams that work hard but the teams and cars arent distinct enough from one another. i also dont like how some NASCAR fans think they're better than eveyone else and give people like you snobby answers. i like how its the second most popular sport in america when i see a lot more baseball shirts and jerseys and football and hockey for that matter, and i can go three months without seeing anything NASCAR. but what i do like in NASCAR is going to the races. i havent been to many but the atmosphere is cool no matter if you hate it or not.

Well if you don't like it and seem to have no interest in understanding it then don't watch it.
1. Find me a high level racing series that runs stock cars. Not gonna happen. They all are purpose built race cars. I'm pretty sure a race with a stock Camry, Monte, Fusion, and Charger would be an awful race. Watching them fly around the track and 1/3 the speed of now and seeing someone die because of a wreck at 100 mph in a street car is not going to be safe.
2. I like oval racing because you can see most of the track instead of road racing where you only see 1 corner.
3. See #1. Not too much on any racing series will show up on a street car any time soon because its expensive and not always reliable for more than a few hundred miles.
4. Did you ever wonder why us average people can't afford a Porsche or Ferrari?
I like NASCAR because its competitive racing. There is a lot of strategy involved. It has American drivers. The drivers are accessible to the fans. Anyone with a ticket can probably find a way to get an autograph and actually talk to their favorite driver. Good luck with any of that in F1.

I will answer this on the assumption you are asking the question with intellectual honesty and not trying to pick a fight, which most people are when they ask this question.
Why do I like NASCAR?
1) The thrill. 43 cars going dang near 200 mph on varying shaped courses of varying distances. These cars are running at that high speed just inches apart. One false move and you're out.
2) The strategy. It's more than running all out. If that were all, all the engines would blow. You've gotta build a good car. You gotta know when to pit for fuel so as to not sacrifice track position. When do we change tires and how many do we change? When fighting for track position when do I as a driver say, "Let it go?" How do I race this car if something's go wrong with the car? If you think it's all about driving around in circles, then you haven't REALLY watched a race.
3) The Drivers. There's a mix of good guys and jackasses, but just about everyone can find a guy to root for. Most all of them donate a lot of their money to good causes and are generally well-conditioned athletes with a good understanding of how cars work.
4) The discipline. If you behave like a miscreant, they'll kick your *** out.
I have no problem with folks who don't like NASCAR. I don't like F-1, Indy Car and all that. However- I don't go to their message boards asking stupid questions like this!

Well, if you don't like Nascar ya don't like it, so go to something you like. Nascar is the most watched sport going on. They bring in more fans then football, baseball, Indy races and all other car races. But on the other questuions, i agree that oval tracks are so boring. Nascar is doing something about this. Maybe by 2009, you'll see why. Just my opinon.

I see part of your reason for not liking it are you don't understand how the driver uses strategy and also how it has it's history in street stocks. These cars are not made to be reproduced, but wrecked. They also must be built to comply with NASCAR"S rules for weight and how the car needs to be built. Car models are not made to emerge from these races.
The sport is one big family and it has always been. When there is a death or whatever, no matter who you are a fan of, everyone feels it.
There are many so-called 'rivalries' between teams and drivers that are not really so, but created by the press.
Anyway, it has quickly emerged to have the largest fan base of any sport in the U.S., and more and more people are getting addicted.
It's all about speed, strategy, cheering for your favorite driver as well as team.

What motorsport races vehicles that ACTUALLY resemble the REAL CARS that they represent??? Can I go to a Mercedes-Benz dealership and buy the EXACT car that Lewis Hamilton is racing? If I went to a Honda salesperson and asked him (or her), " I would like to test drive the car that Danica Patrick races ", what do you think the response would be? Can I get a motorcycle just like Miguel Duhamels' and ride it on the street LEGALLY?? Can Colin Edwards go 200 mph in a "fake car" at Talladega with 42 other drivers??? Michael Schumacher driving a Chevy Monte Carlo doing 195 at a BORRRING track like Daytona??? Where can I buy a Riley Pontiac?? How about a Red Bull Renault?? Cosworth DP01??? Tell us what motorsport DOESN'T have sponsorship in one form or another. NASCAR is a business just like any other sport. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Change the channel AND die...

If we have to explain it, you wouldn't understand anyway. A lot of us don't like some of the things that come out of Nascar anymore, i.e. the cars used to mean something, but, now it is about the drivers mainly and the competition. Have you ever watched an IROC race? That is kind of what Nascar is getting to be. It is not so much about the cars anymore but about the drivers and the competition. The cars appeal to the masses because they are called by the same names as the cars that middle America drives. It is about the American dream.

You're entitled to your opinion, but why post it on here? You're not looking for information, just trying to make people angry. You could say the same thing for a million other sports out there. I don't like baseball, but I don't go on a baseball website and go, "Why do people like baseball? It's boring, I don't see how it's any fun. They don't do anything except hit balls and chase balls...blah, blah, blah!" The fact is, fans like NASCAR. It's fun, it's exciting, it's interesting. If you don't like it, then fine - that's your deal. But leave everyone else alone. That's what makes us all unique. We like different things. If everyone liked the exact same things that you do, this would be a terribly boring world. So stop trying to make people mad. Accept the fact that it's a sport that a lot of people in this world like and don't want to see change.

1. You can't buy a street car that resembles an F1 Ferrari or Top Fuel Dragster either. So what?
2. Umm, that's like saying you don't like it because you don't like it.
3. True of every motorsports series except for LeMans, somewhat, not that many ordinary folks will ever buy a new Porsche or Ferrari. And maybe rallying. Again, so what?
I enjoy NASCAR racing for many of the same reasons people enjoy other sports: the drama of close competition (amazing charges forward, last-second saves, desperate gambles in pit/tire/fuel strategy, finishes determined by inches) and the pleasure of watching gifted athletes performing a difficult task and doing it with consummate skill (perfectly timed passes, cars held on the ragged edge of wiping out turn after turn after turn).
All that, plus speed and danger and big rumbly V-8s. And the drivers are mostly regular guys from middle-class/working-class backgrounds. They're friendly and accessible, not pampered, isolated prima donnas, nor juiced-up, drug-using, murdering, raping, dog-abusing thugs. What's not to like?
NASCAR is the U.S.'s second-most-popular sport. Why should it "change or die" just on YOUR say-so? Who are you exactly?

I love nascar because it is awesome, thrill of the chase and the the feeling you get when you see how close they get to each other and some times not wreck. also the feeling you get watching the drivers fight to keep their spot on the track when someone else wants it too, it is awesome. This is the reason i love nascar, just my thought on it!!!!!
