Is there any way to get around the annoying audio AGC feature in some camcorders? How can you turn it off?

My camcorder does not have a switch or menu feature to disable this feature and the Beachtek adapter I have only provides limited improvements to the audio, doing nothing to disable the audio AGC. So how do you get around this feature for more professional results?

before you diss the camera, check to be sure you are using the 16 bit audio option. some cameras default to the 12 bit ATRAC compressed audio which may be the source of your grief.
