You might think I'm nuts but I honestly don't know, so this might be an easy 2 points or whatever. I am going to buy a 32 " hdtv for my room, so how do i set it up? Do I just plug it in and that's it?

No. A new HDTV will come with a manual which should explain a lot of things. But In general:

You have to feed the TV signals for it to display. The simplest source is an OTA antenna. In many areas you can get by with a ~$10 pair of "rabbit ears". This will have a RF connector which will screw or push on to a mating "Antenna In" jack.
Once you have an antenna hooked up, you will need the TV's manual to figure out its menu system. Modern TVs need to "scan" to find what channels are available.

If you are going to get cable or satellite service, the connections vary with the type of service you get.

You will probably want to hook up other things to your TV, there should be some assorted video/sound input jacks on the TV (something to look at when you buy the TV!) for this purpose.

For example, common cheap DVD players usually come with composite cables to hook up to your TV. These are the "lowest common denominator" cables; they will work but will have the lowest video quality. Generally for best quality you would want to hook it to the TV with component cables. If it doesn't have component outputs, s-video is the next highest quality analog connection.

TV cables tend to be overpriced at stores, check prices at

TO take advantage of the HDTV's better picture you will need HDMI cables. 9 times out of 10 these will not come with the TV so pick up one or two of them.

No need to buy super expensive HDMI cables, almost all of them perform the same.

You will also of course need something that is sending an HD signal to the TV, be it an upcovert DVD player, HD cable box, Blu-Ray player, HD-DVD player, PS3 or Xbox 360.

Before you plug it in take a couple minutes and read the instruction manual. They might have some good tips on where to put the tv, like not next to your stereo speakers and stuff.
