I don't think that they are the gun owner database. i think that its possible to make them into the gun owner database. Ive taken a look at their recent activities in lobbying congress and making deals, and i am not impressed.
It is not necessary to get a complete gun owners list. heres a break down of it:
NRA: gun owners that care about their rights, but can probably be coerced into giving them up.
GOA: gun owners that care about their rights, will not give them up, and dont have a problem letting the whole world know
Unlisted owners: either just going with the flow and willing to give up their rights to follow the law, or gun owners that care about their rights and also their privacy.
the people in NRA and GOA are the owners that are of concern to the brady bunch, because they care and can be targeted. if an anti gun congress is elected, NRA and GOA members can count on persecution. people unlisted are of no immediate concern. the majority of these will surrender arms willingly. the small minority of people who value guns and privacy can be dealt with at a later time.

Chris, Colter, I don't know which of you two are the more ignorant.
There are 80 Million gun owners in this country and less than 6 Million are NRA members. Not a very good database is it.
And Colter, you are just tagging along for a free ride. You are doing nothing to help defend our Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Get off your duff and get into the fight rather than letting other people carry the burden. If you don't like the NRA, there are other groups to join, such as the Second Ammendment Foundation, or the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
So get off your lazy butt and off you wallet and join the fight to defend our rights. Otherwise soon we won't have any guns to worry about.
Jack, you are 100% correct on all counts.

Well...Since the NRA does not maintain any records of individuals gun ownership, specifically what guns anyone owns..How could that be ?
If the government wanted the data badly enough all they would have to do is get legal access to all of the BATF form #4473's that have to be submitted by EVERYONE who buys, or transfers a weapon to or from a Dealer for years now....Names addresses, descriptions, serial numbers, makes model numbers, caliber Etc Etc. it's all there. Any one with common sense would not even give the NRA a serious look or consideration.
CHRIS S. If you are NOT a part of the solution, YOU ARE a part of the problem...

What makes you assume every gun owner is a member of the NRA? For better or worse, the fact is only a fraction of gun owners are members, making their membership roles an incomplete and innefective tool for the gun-grabbers.
To add to the list of other orgnizations supporting our second amendment rights Doc Hudson gave above, please include the JPFO.(Jews for the Protection of Firearms Ownership.) Check out their website.

If the government or other agency wanted to know who owned firearms, it would not be hard to uncover the information. People subscribe to magazines, attend gun shows, buy ammo, go shooting. Heck, YA could be collecting data from our questions and answers.
Everyone needs to quit being so paranoid.

Ya, that is why I don't join these types of organizations. I keep the money and use it in the firearms market and let those guys donate it... I doubt it is a database but I don't want to risk it.
