I was talking to my uncle about my career and I told him that I wanted to be an archaeologist. He gave me mean look and started talking about how the Ancient Egyptians were destroyed by "god" because they didn't believe and worshipped "false idols"!

The same thing happens at my TEXAS school! The Christian kids seem to sneer and me for trying to learn Egyptian hieroglyphics. They are also really rude when I tell them that I worship Egyptian deities.. Why are they this way to Ancient Egyptians? I've also noticed that they're thins way to Romans and Greeks sometimes too...

Why?

Don't' worry, it's not just Egypt. It's ALL other cultures and religions BUT their own. They treat celtic pagans, norse heathens, hellenistic pagans, roman pagans, slavic pagans... the exact same.
In their eyes, we're all stupid and wrong and blind and idiotic for not worshipping THEIR god. Well, tough luck, in our eyes, they're all that too. We are perfectly happy with our gods.

If you feel such a strong connection to ancient egypt, it's obvious the gods have called for you. Go for it. You know what feels right for yourself - don't ever let anybody influence you or discourage you. Just be yourself and do what feels right for you.
good luck!

I would, at a guess surmise they are like that because they never studied history or if they did they didn't understand it, or even more likely it conflicted with their theories on how all things should have been when Christianity was a fledgling religion. However, I may be wrong, it could be because they just don't care and would rather use a made up reason they were taught as kids rather than face the truth. And if the truth isn't the same as what they were taught and now believe, then it isn't the truth as far as they are concerned. Which is why, in my opinion, there is so much hate in the world. In this country you have white supremists saying things like Jesus was a white man. How do they know that, especially when everybody and his brother or sister from that part of the world was dark complexioned?

Honestly because most of them aren't educated on those cultures outside of college courses or a Bible. The Bible doesn't paint a pretty picture of them. They were that dirty little word "pagan". Many write off the "pagans" as ignorant back woods hicks.
As student of Kemetic, I'm sure you are well aware that the Egyptians were amazingly technological for a civilization of the time. Math, science, medicine. Don't take it to heart. I'm Heathen Recon. That really throws people too. "Oh, so you're into Vikings and stuff?"
Just smile and nod. They can't help being stupid. If they choose to be willfully ignorant then let them. You will run into a great many people, Christian and other wise who are fascinated with ancient cultures. Don't let it get you down. And good luck.
If "god" took out all the unbelievers then why didn't the Norse convert "officially" until 1000 AD? It was never wiped out either. It just wasn't the official faith anymore. It was done for trade. So if God was wiping out unbelievers, he really sucked at it with mine...

Well, I'm a Christian, I go to bible school, so I know a couple of other Christians to. I don't think that I would have to take a poll to see how many of them know any ancient Egyptians. The answer would be zero. And if we did know them, there would be nothing biblical about hating them, that would be ignorance and cowardice. As it would be for anyone to sneer at you for wanting to study any ancient civilization.

Well, there is a historical emnity between the jewish and ancient egyprtian cultures. But no, there just being ignorant. I think its the worshipping of said deities that makes them mad, because this is (Obviously) against Christianity. If someone came up to you and said he worshipped a god who is the enemy of the egyptian gods, how would you react? Its like that. Im not defending them, but still...

I am a Christian. When I got to see King Tuts tomb exhibit in Chicago in 1975 I wanted to be an archeologist. I settled for a middle school history teacher. I love to study ancient civilizations and Egypt is my favorite. I don't believe in worshiping Egyptian deities but that is your choice. You certainly don't have to worship them to study them.

It is your life and career, so follow your own heart and passion. I think being an archaeologist is a great profession. It was my minor in college. You probably won't make much money and sometimes it can get boring, but I still loved it.

Interesting. This is the first time I've heard about these kinds of hostile reactions toward ancient civilizations. How silly.

I think it's a fantastic career plan. Good luck! :)

My purely guess is they equate issues like "coaching scientific theory" and "last secular" and "coaching historic previous" with "pushing atheism." form of like how allowing gays to marry could ultimately infringe upon the civil rights of at as quickly as human beings. whilst i improve into in school, sure, i improve into taught the assumption of evolution, nevertheless there improve right into a great disclaimer before everything of the unit, and that i'm particularly helpful that none of it improve into on the staggering examination. We have been additionally taught ecu historic previous and that they did no longer pull punches whilst they noted the Crusades and the Inquisitions, which i think from one perspective could be considered as "pushing atheism," nevertheless i do no longer see it that way. i improve into, whether, hauled into the theory's place of work for persistently ending the Pledge of Allegience earlier absolutely everyone else, via fact I refused to assert "under God" (nevertheless i improve into, in fact, Christian for 0.5 of my severe college years).
