Well, I don't lie or cuss ever. I'm not "born-again". I'm not even Christian. Heck, I'm not even religious or theistic.

So, how do I have these attributes that apparently you can only have and keep as a "born-again" Christian?

"and you're not going to tell me you never cuss or lie ...come on, be real."

I am being truthful here. I also never drink or smoke and don't even have pierced ears.

Pretty 'pure' of an atheist, eh? *laughs*

"The HUGE difference is that you glorify YOURSELF because of these things rather than the GOD that made you this way."

I don't glorify myself and I can't glorify an imaginary being.

wannabe, the qualities mentioned were implied to only be capable and kept by Christian "born-again" people. And often times, what one Christian says many other Christians will agree on. Christianity has many sects to it. I was just questioning one of them.

It is a matter of choice. you chose to not speak profanity, and some christians grew up hearing it all of their lives before they got born again and then got into the habit of saying it, and it stayed with them until they discipline themselves not to say it. Just because someone is born again doesn't mean they are perfect over night. Their flesh will not be made perfect until Christ comes back. Until then, they make mistakes just like anyone else. They are just forgiven and have to make an effort to change certain faults.

You know what I'd do? I'd suddenly have an "epiphany" and pretend to be born again. I'd walk around the house throwing Jesus this and Jesus that around. After a while of this, start telling her about how she needs to repent her sins and needs to stop stealing and deceiving. Show her that whole honor your parents thing in the ten commandments. Tell her over and over again how concerned you are for her soul. Either she'll stop with the born again crap because it'll no longer be a rebellion thing for her, or she'll stop stealing and lying. Then you can go back to the business of being you. Update: It's heartwarming seeing how well all of you can read--the speaker and her daughter are both females, assuming she isn't lying herself.

I am not sure why you think these attributes are limited to Christians. I am a Christian and have never heard that to be said. In fact, I have been hearing more from the pulpit about how Christians need to continuously evaluate themselves to make sure they aren't lying or any other such thing.

*I followed the link and it seems someone was sharing their experience with someone else. If you take everything said on this site to be representative of the whole, I am not surprised you are confused. I find it interesting that her answer to that question said nothing about those qualities being exempt for non-Christians yet you imply it as such. Maybe a self evaluation is in order.

The answer in question:
There will be changes, you won,t cuss ,you won,t lie,you won, tsay anything bad against God ,and you will tell people you love God and he loves them.

You can be the nicest, friendliest, straightest person ever and still not be a christian. A born again christian accepts, believes and trusts in Jesus who changes that person thru their faith in Him. This faith is a gift from God. And yes, a born again christian walks with Jesus and desires to keep the commandments of God with their changed minds and hearts. There are atheists who also do not lie or cuss, but that's because they choose not to. God bless

Who said you can only be "born again" to have these attributes?
There are many unbelievers who have a sense of morality. Just because you don't smoke, drink or cuss doesn't mean you're a believer.
And just as a sidenote, ALL have fallen short of the glory of God. If anyone says they have never lied, then rest assured they are a liar.

I have never heard any one say that only born again Christians have those attributes. A lot of people who are not born again Christians have those attributes. Where did you get that idea? I don't even know any Christians that say that. And everyone lies on occasion. I know of nobody that can say they have never lied before. And if they did it would probably be a lie.

Born again does not make one perfect or infallible. It is a spiritual state but you still live in and deal with the physical with all of it's faults, temptations and problems. The spirit should have some influence on the human, but mistakes are made. Sure Christians swear, but over time and maturity, they learn to curb this behavior and deal with it. Lust comes to them because they are still in this body. How they deal with that is perfected over time or becomes a problem that may hinder them all their life.

That is so silly. If you do not submit to the standard of God, you can never say that you do not lie or you do not sin...of course you can, but in the scheme of the things you do not meet God's standard.

You need to understand that we all are humans. Our teacher is Jesus. If you do not follow the example of Jesus, you are not a good follower of Christ, but you can still be saved.

You need to understand that we are not saved because we are good, we are saved because our Lord is good, and not just good but perfect. He is our example, but we get saved only by the mercy and grace of God.

It is a good thing you have those attributes, but we all need Jesus for our Salvation.

Born again Christians are just as capable of sin as those who aren't saved. Being born again doesn't mean that we never sin any more. It means that we don't live in sin....we don't habitually sin any more. We are free from sin meaning that we don't HAVE to sin any more, I don't NEED to drink any more....I don't NEED to gamble any more....I don't NEED to cuss any more. However, I am still perfectly capable of doing any of those things if I choose to do it. But, if I choose to offend God I am also choosing to be chastened / chastise by God for it. God only chastens his own children, he doesn't chasten the devils children.

I don't know, I'm a born again believer and I still cuss and lie occasionally. I'm not proud of it but God knows we're not perfect. That's why he's so forgiving.
