I'm looking to buy a .22 Semi-Auto pistol soon, and I've been looking at all the different makes and models (Ruger, Smith and Wesson, Browning, High-Standard, etcetera, etcetera). Anyone have ideas about which is the best quality for $400? Thank you.

A few to look at

Ruger 22/45 MKIII Hunter SS 6 7/8"
Ruger MKIII Hunter SS 6 7/8"
Browning Buckmark

Just for added info, one of my favorite .22s is the Smith & Wesson M63

My Browning Buckmark is far more accurate than either of the two Ruger Marks that I have owned, however in fairness it does have the longer target barrel. I have shot the High Standard and always been impressed by them. The S&W I can't comment on from experience, but they do have their loyal followers and seem to have happy owners.

I have a Ruger Model 22/45 with the bull barrel and the S&W.* I like them both.* It really comes down to personal preference.* They are all great.*

If you also have a 1911 I would go with a Ruger 22/45 MKIII as it is supposed to have the same grip

As long as you not trying to win the Olympics with one, all would serve you well. Try the Browning or Ruger.

of the s&w,colt and hi-standard, I liked the high standard. balance, relialility, and action seemed to be a lot nicer than the other two. I shot competion with all three and found the standard was a more comfortable pistol to fire

For best value for the price, go with the Ruger of your choice.

I just got a walther P22 for 315$. Not saying it's the best but with 300+ rounds and no problems it ok in my book. http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A9ibyGVMbeNGvQEAnwejzbkF/SIG=128dr5tf5/EXP=1189396172/**http%3A//www.impactguns.com/store/media/wal_p22_od.jpg
