When people get their hands on an extra small pouch for their gear (usually FAD, Grenade, Steyr or M16), they typically put it on the shoulder area or harness of their load bearing equipment. Bad idea - this makes carrying a pack and general movement more difficult. Put it on the side of a bigger ammunition pouch.
If you carry a utility knife of sorts with you, tie some cord to one end, and tie the other end to the inside of a pouch. Then when you need to adjust your blank firing adaptor or open something at night, you'll have an easier time.
Tape a large plastic bin liner in the inside of your pack, everything goes in here and give it a quick tie when you're done - waterproofing your pack the easy way.
If you have any spare small pockets or pouches, put a roll of black tape in it - it's essential for improvising all sorts of solutions - fixing a snapped radio aerial, adjusting and tying up extra slack in your pack and webbing straps, maybe even taping up the baggy parts in your trousers if you really needed to move quietly.

Not fair. Illegal in my estimation. That's because the military pension is not property. It can't be sold. It can't be left to one's heirs. It can't legally be assigned to another person. So, it doesn't meet the definition of property as defined in the Uniformed Commercial Code. Even more galling is the case which caused this law to be passed. A career Army doctor was sued by his ex-wife for half of his pension because she had to bear the hardships of his career. For 14 of the 16 years they were married, he was assigned to Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco with quarters on post! Some hardship....

When you pack anything cloth, roll it into the smallest possible cylinder for packing. This will make your top space in your pack emptier and less heavy on the top, putting more weight at the waist, not the spine.
Double hand sew all of your straps with dental floss and treat all of your threaded places in your gear with a waterproofing stick.

Suspenders for my chem suit bottoms because they tend to sag.
Always wear two pairs of socks to cushion the feet and provide extra wicking capacity. Used to get foot rot every year of so but never have since I started doubling up.
Clean socks and underwear in a ziplock bag in your backpack or Camelback. Clean dry drawers are always good for morale. Squash all the air out to make it as small as possible.

Drink lots of caffeine when you have to stay up all night. Be sure to counter it with Gatorade or water because it will make you dehydrated.

We always put condoms on the end of of our rifles, sometimes with a rubber band to hold it in place, the condom keeps out dirt and moisture and you can still fire the weapon as necessary as the condom does not block the barrel.
