Life is rough, instead of trying to make it better, they pin their hopes on an afterlife.

There is such a scenario in the religion I follow, that of the ancient Norse deities. In truth the scenario, known as RagnarokR, is not something that most who follow the Norse deities make much mention of, however, there are some who take a great focus on it. I am one such and the main reason that I look forward to such a happening is that it the social disorder and chaos will be an environment that I can do quite well in.

As for it being sensible, such things rarely are, but such things are usually more...entertaining.

I think "A Cow" above gave you the "why". As to your last question, I don't think it's sensible at all. It seems to me that spending an entire lifetime looking forward to the possibility of heaven by way of the Apocalypse can cause someone to take *this* life for granted, as well as this beautiful world we have been so lucky to be born on.

I look forward to the end of this wicked system, but it won't be the end of humankind. This system sucks, and it just keeps getting worse. Kids are afraid to go to school, our justice system is all screwed up, I have no idea who dreamed up the mortgage game, but it REALLY sucks. I still think most people are pretty good people, but there are many who are cruel, selfish, arrogant. In the new system, God will wipe the tears from our eyes and death will be no more. Neither will mourning, nor outcry, nor pain be anymore. Sounds good to me.

It's not so much that we look forward to the end of life here as we know it, but that we christians look forward to living a perfect life in a perfect Heaven with perfect God. Come Lord Jesus!!

No, we are told the earth and heavens as we know will be destroyed. Still many people claim to be Christian and do not believe the Bible, but go into some mumbo-jumbo about the Rapture and all that jazz.

i think it's sensible because it will mean the end of corruption, pain, sin, heartache, etc. it will be a new beginning, of eternal happiness. and that is much more appealing then life as we know it today.

I can speak for many Christians.

The end of humankind means that we are going home to be with Jesus.

i think it's not necessarily that we're looking forward to the end of humankind. or the end of the world. it's that we're looking forward to what happens after that.
christians--heaven, new jerusalem, you know.

the bible says its the day god will sweep them up into heaven and the unrightous will have to suffer through it all.

but im not religous at all and i hope to see the apocalypse in my life time. why? because its only gonna happen once man, and u have no choice but to die some day, so why not by the biggest event in the history of human kind? we would be very fortunate to see it happen.
