What you are referring to sounds like oral mucositis which is an inflammation in the mouth that creates painful ulcers. There is treatment for it, but it can be difficult to manage once it has started.

You need to ask your oncologist, but yes, there should be medication with a perscription. My son used chlorhexidine mouth wash to keep sores away and that worked for him. But I know some people can get really sore mouths and will need a stronger perscription or pain med.

Best to you.

I don't know if it works with chemo side effects, but with similar radiation symptoms, we give what we call "magic swizzle". It has lidocaine and other meds in it. You swish and swallow, and it numbs your mouth and throat for a short time, at least allowing you to eat. The best thing to do is to ask your oncologist, they usually have ways of dealing with many of the side effects.

Call the doctor's office and ask them. They should have specific ideas of what to take for your symptoms.
