i bought some today that were slightly green and then tonight i am noticing that they are starting to get small black spots.

Hang them - you can get a "banana hanger" or cup hook under the cupboard will keep them fresher longer I have even draped them over the handle of a metal basket so they aren't lying down and air can circulate easily. The small black spots are where the sugars have condensed and when you open the banana - the "mushy" parts are just natural fructose pockets. The only time a banana is spoiled is when the skin is wet and black. Hope this helped!

bananas should be kept out of direct sunlight at low room temp about 60 degrees preferably, never put them in the fridge

If you will put them in the refrigerator, it will help them last longer - however, their skin does get black, but it doesn't affect the taste.

we usually tie them up and hang them in the house....once they touch hot surfaces they tend to get rippen easily...try this method
