How in your words , from your point of view , does the platypus prove your stance on creation or evolution? Please choose the one you believe in to write on. If you believe in both then explain how the platypus is proof of that belief.

Please no flames. This is only meant to be a mental exercise.

It is great evidence for evolution I think. It is unlike anything else we know of on earth; a strange mix of features. Bill. Flat beaver-like tail. Lays eggs. Produces milk to feed its young. When people ask "where are the transitional forms?" .. well, how much more transitional do they want? :p

No offense to the platypus, but if a divine, intelligent being created all life on Earth, I think it could have done a better job than to create such a biologically confused creature. On the other hand, evolution is not an intelligent being, but a series of events brought about through the slow and gradual process of natural selection. Within the confines (and possibilities) of evolution, the platypus fits right in.

Well...I think that Evolution is what made us from single-celled to multi-celled organisms...as for the Platypus...I would think...it COULD be the missing link between birds and mammals? I don't know...I do not have enough knowledge to make any sort of educated guess for any of the two stances..other than what I just outlined above...but...I hope I helped...^_^
-EDIT- Or maybe reptile...who knows?

Evolution. It qualifies as a kind of proto-mammal. That is, an essential transition from Reptile to mammal. Notice how it's mammaries and oher mammalian features are not fully defined as are others? Notice how it lays eggs?

That, and it's on Australia, where less efficent breeding [Marsupials, and egg-laying mammals] never had to compete with placental births. Well, until they introduced the rabbit.
