If you can get a dial tone it should work, remember on some phones then you have to move the mode setting, either to tone or pulse mode, can't remember which way, just try both ways, you can receive calls on either mode, but to dial out it has to be on the right mode, (try dialing out to a number) if the phone is equipped with it.... if it doesn't have one you should be set to go, if you get the dial tone...........no health risks, that I know of.................

1980's is not THAT old... it is the same general technology that is being used today (with the exception of VoIP)

it used the same plug in the 80's that it uses today... how young are you people on here? you have to go back another 10 or 20 years before the modular rj-11 plugs werent used...

what kind of health risk would you get from using a phone?

the ONLY health risk that you realistically have while using a phone is during a lightning storm if you are using a corded phone...

The only issue is that it may not have a newer plastic jack to plug into the wall, and instead may have a 4 pronged metal jack (similar to a power plug). But if it has the little jack, it should be just fine.

Just plug it in and if you get a dial tone, you are in business.

Yes- we have one of the first phones that we could buy-for $150-and it still works fine!
