I have a 12 year old yellow lab that lives at my house and I take him to my momś while I work. He pants big time and will not relax until he is let outside and refuses to come in a dry cool house even if its raining or during very hot weather. A new cat started living at my momś a month ago but he started doing this 2 months ago. At my house he is very relaxed. We also have a nice cat at my house but he been good with it for 2 years. He does have a problem with my steps to the back door and my momś steps to the back door. The front steps is no problem at either house. He acts like he is in a great deal of pain only in my motherś house. Anybody with ideas what the problem is with my poor dog would be apprieceted.

you have a very smart dog. He hurts more at your mom's because he knows he's at the babysitter's and not with you. This is his way of telling you. He loves you a lot.

I doubt that the steps would make him pant that much. His reluctance to enter her house, I think, is the key. There's something in the house that upsets him somehow. Not to sound too crazy, but the ghost comment might not be that far fetched. Dogs can sense spirits and if it's a distressed spirit, the dog won't want to be around it. I think I'd spend some time at your mom's house observing your dog there. Notice what he's looking at and what he reacts to in the house. Are there any areas he refuses to into especially. Try to think like him and look at what he's looking at. This is a real puzzle. Hope you get it figured out.

When a dog or an animal is stressed about going or being in a house (usually) mean's the house has a ghost or ghosts. The animals can see and sense ghosts more so than people can.

Maybe just separation anxiety. Heavy panting and being uncomfortable are big signs.

Stress of being in a different environment, and you not being there. No matter how often it occurs, it can still be stressful.
