is why some churches don't allow women to wear jeans! Yeah I've heard the verse in dueteronomy, but that was then, in the OT. If Jesus was here now, would he really care about our clothes? As long as they aren't revealing!

I wear jeans all the time (and yes, I wear them to church) and I would feel totally weird wearing a skirt.

(I got all fired up about this cuz a girl I know that told me that wearing jeans isn't right cuz I'm a girl.)

Disrespect?

Once again... clothes? I respect God with my life, heart, and soul - I think that's more important than how the fabric that I'm wearing is sewn.

Well, some people in some churches believe that dressing up is a sign of respect for "God's house." I was raised to believe that way. But I look at it differently now, because really, "the church" isn't a building. The church is all followers of Jesus Christ, so I don't feel I need to dress up to respect a building!

People can say, "well you should dress up because you are going there to worship God, and He's way more worthy of respect than a queen or president" - but really aren't we supposed to worship God wherever we are and wherever we go? So if we're supposed to dress up to worship God, then we'd have to be dressed up all the time, if we follow that line of logic!

If God isn't telling you to wear a skirt to church, don't worry about it. It's really between you and Him. Also, I don't know what type of church you are going to, but if the pastors/leaders aren't trying to tell you not to wear jeans, I wouldn't worry.

On a different note - and this might sound contradictory, but I think you'll see where I'm going here - all I have said here is related to the culture we are in. In our culture jeans are considered acceptable women's clothing. (I'm not saying we have to conform to every aspect of our culture though, but just saying women wearing jeans is not considered by our culture as trying to look like a man; they're just normal clothes.) I noticed on your profile that you would like to be a missionary someday. If God does lead you in that direction, a time may come when you are involved with people in countries/cultures where wearing pants/jeans would be out of the question for Christian women, because it would go against what is accepted in that culture, and in order to gain the respect of the people and win them to Christ and minister to them, sometimes we need to make adjustments. (Also, certain forms of dress have different connotations in certain cultures, which it's important to learn about before going to minister in that culture.) Anyway, that's food for thought for the future.

But where you are right now, just remember that God looks on your heart and what pleases Him is your faith and your love for Him, so don't let anything rob you of that! You rock, sistah!

I can understand them preferring that you not wear jeans to church, just for the fact that they're so casual. I wear jeans all week, but on Sabbath I still put on my nice skirt and blouse. I guess it's kind of like, have a kind of clothing you wear just for church, like some people will not listen to secular music on Sabbath but will listen to Christian music instead. But, depending on the religion you are or the beliefs you hold, the OT didn't go anywhere. Jesus said that he was here to fulfill the law, not do away with it. The choice is ultimately yours, if you feel it is appropriate to wear jeans, then wear jeans. There is a particular religion that I know of that the girls don't wear pants at all. It all depends on what you believe. And tell that girl to back off, it's about YOUR beliefs, not hers.

Hmm...I myself always thought it's more respectable to wear a skirt to church. For some reason, it feels weird wearing jeans (to church, I mean). But that's me. For me, a skirt is more presentable than jeans. Let me ask this, to whoever wants to answer: Why do we not want to be more presentable and pretty before Christ, when we wear pretty stuff on dates? Are men more important than Christ? I'm not talking about the fancy-schmancy dresses and whatnot; most girls I know wear a nice skirt or something even if it's just a casual date. Just something to think about.

I don't get it, either.

Considering that until relatively recently in history, men wore skirts and tights.

FYI there were no jeans mentioned in the Bible.

Most men had very long hair.

If a man would walk into a Christian(including Catholic) church, wearing a skirt, tights, and very long hair, I'm sure there would be a problem.

The big thing about womens' dress in church is modesty. You're supposed to cover up the parts of the body that provoke men's imaginations. Wearing jeans, I suppose, would make men imagine about your buttocks, etc.

Of course, I don't have an idea why a Christian man would be "imagining" about a female's body, if he truly walks in Christ. Or why he would even be worried about it, unless his faith isn't true. Maybe your church is filled with fornication-minded men, and the rule is there to protect you.

Some Churches just feel that way. Growing up I was not allowed to wear blue jeans to Church my father was very strict about that. I now attend a church that allows you to wear what you want to Church as long as it is appropriate, meaning no short shorts or revealing tops. Jesus is more concerned with what is in heart than what outfit you have on.

It is okay to wear jeans if they are modest and not too revealing, but no matter where you go, you will find corruption in the church. They will make nonsense rules. You just have to believe that God will show you the right things and what to do, not the church. God Bless.

It really depends on the type of church. The very traditional ones usually expect attendees to dress a certain way- no jeans, t-shirts, flipflops, etc., but in your "Sunday Best", rather. At many non-denominational churches, similar to mine, we have a more casual service on Saturday nights and most come in jeans and tennis shoes or whatever. We believe that its not what you wear, but its what's in your heart when you come to hear God's Word and worship Him, even on Sunday! Find a church that will accept you for you and not look twice at the jeans you are wearing. :)

The people in the NT had church regardless of how the person was dressed(as long as it was modest), looked, or whatever, and as time went on the church began to adapt the dress codes for the new church and put them into their own system. You should be comfortable in church, but not too comfortable lol.

When I was young, many moons ago, my public elementary school made girls where dresses, even when they srarted to outgrow them (no doubt the inspiration for the soon invention of the mini skirt, just in time, when I went to high school).

Men and boys seem to like dresses. I guess it's still "a man's world". Forgive us for looking. God's still working on us!

Ironically women are not allowed to show any flesh under strict Muslim practices. That head covering must be hot in the summer!

Those 100% coverings of Islamic ladies are dresses...I wonder what they'd say if you came that way!

Beauty is only skin deep. God judges the heart!!! Just go along with a smile. Who does it hurt to comply??? ;-)
