Liz,
Mary is not a Goddess
Why not get the Catechism of the Catholic Church and see what the Catholic Church really teaches about Mary?

Forgive me,my dear, but you do not know the Catechism at all .;If you did you would not think the Church considers or treats Mary as a goddess. Also, Queen of Heaven for Mary is not a borrowing from Ishtar but aproper title for the gebirah, the queen-mother,since her Son is King of Heaven and of All

It is Sunday morning and I thought I would check this before getting the children up and ready for mass and religious education. You have listed my favorites...
1) Ave Maria -- it was sung at my Gramma's funeral by a very dear friend and it was incredible the love it conveyed.
2) Immaculate Mary
3) Sing of Mary
4) Save Regina
5) Holy Mary, Now We Crown Thee
It never ceases to amaze me how close minded people remain about Mary. I look to her as an example of the kind of mother I should strive to be. She was the Mother of Our Savior Jesus and if that is not special I do not know what is. Furthermore, I feel it is repulsive that the Mother of Our Savior is not given more respect by those who claim to follow him. There is this commandment that says "Honor thy Mother and Father" and we do just that we honor Jesus' Mother.
Peace be with you.

James, all the ones you've listed are really great. At the top of my favorites list are the following:

1. O Sanctissima
2. Ave Maris Stella
3. Regina Caeli (Queen of Heaven)
4. Stabat Mater (various versions)

Thanks for filling my head with such heavenly music!
God bless.

Stabat mater dolorosa
iuxta Crucem lacrimosa,
dum pendebat Filius.

Ave Maria, sung by a childrens' choir--or Luciano Pavoratti!

Are these Catholic, as I don't know many, but "Ava Maria" has to be one of the most beautiful I've heard. Too bad you can't sing some for us! :) That would be cool to share some faves with each other. For some reason, Don Francisco's "Too Small a Price" tops my list about one of the thieves crucified with Jesus, telling it as he saw it and at the end, after listening to people mock and curse at Jesus, he tells them "I've sinned my whole life long, but don't you curse at HIM that way; He's done nothing wrong!" Anyway, it's awesome. Thanks for listening to me rant.

I have a Savior, and I don't need a goddess. Jeremiah warns us not to worship the "Queen of Heaven," a pagan goddess of the Mesopotamian region, whose title was transferred to Mary by the Catholic church shortly after the reign of Constantine.

Don't get offended, look it up yourself! It's quite easy to document!

Dear, I know the catechism of the Catholic church inside and out. But I am also capable of understanding where tradition brought heresy into the teachings. She is called the "Queen of Heaven." She is prayed to. Catholics are encouraged to go through Mary to Christ. This is in complete abject contradiction to the Word of God. She has been lifted up to the status of goddess, made divine, sinless, capable of performing miracles, and death-defying through the assumption. Sounds like any other pagan goddess' attributes to me!

There is much beauty in Catholicism, but the position that has been given to Mary is repulsive.

I can't remember the name, but it was the one Maid Marian sang in "Robin Hood: Men in Tights".

Ave Maria
Immaculate Mary
Hail Holy Queen
John Michael Talbot's "Holy is his Name (The Magnificat)"

(and I hope I'm not immodest, but I wrote one called "Please" which I rather like.)
