PS3 standard tv?

would a digital set top box be enough to improve a standard tv quality so that it is nearly as good as hdtv. i am not interested in how good the blue-ray movies look i am getting it for the games.

Yes, a PS3 will work just fine on a SD TV.
Yes, digital SDTV (from cable or satellite) looks better than analog SDTV - (DVD quality).
You can still use your PS3 to play regular DVDs.
