The Ohio mom that left her child in the car all day while she taught school ( she is a teacher). She went to the vehicle 5-6 times during the day and didnt notice the child. She was "distracted" because she stopped to get donuts before school !!! no charges were filed and they called it an accident.............. This is neglect and i feel there is NO EXCUSE. How do you feel?
Would you really want this woman as your childs teacher?
How could you look at the kids and forget you left your own child in the car?

If a child seeks out of the house and gets hurt or lost, DCFS will charge a parent with neglect or child endangerment............... BUT she is getting off scott free.............. A sex offender is not allowed around children ( with good cause) but doesnt this give good cause to keep her away from children?

Wishmaster---------- The really sad thing is this happens every where not just OHIO and the parents get away with it. I have 3 children and i have NEVER forgot where my kids were........

Debbie, while I agree where should be a buzzer, I dont feel its car makers responsibility to make us KNOW where our children are. No matter what is on my mind, I always put the kids first... this mom put donuts first. How could she go into the school see all the kids and not once think about her child!!!

Some days I am dragging just trying to make it in the door, but I have never forgot my children. she forgot a 2 year old for 8 hours..... in temps over 100 degrees. She went to her vehicle 5-6 times....... I just cant blame auto makers for this one........... They are not one one that had the kids........

If a mom falls asleep and the child goes outside and someone reports her....... she will get charges from child protective services, for neglect, and have to have CPS around for months.....( happened to a woman I worked with) But this child DIED.

First of all I'd like to address Donald on this, About that person that gave you a thumbs down, Can I help you tie that person to the back seat of the car??????????? Peaseeeeeeee??????????.............LOL......
Ok now I've also heard that NOT ONLY DID SHE DO THIS WITH THIS CHILD. BUT SHE ALSO LEFT HER OTHER CHILD IN THE CAR, LONG ENOUGH TO HAVE THE COPS CALLED ON HER.
Oh that poor Lady, she was distracted because she had to stop and get donuts.......give me a break....I have no children, but if I were to have any, I sure wouldn't want her responsible for any child.

I saw the exact same thing when i saw this on the news. I could not believe they weren't going to charge her with murder or child endangerment or neglect or anything because it was an "accident" My problem is i dont understand how and mother could forget that she had her child with her. I think this is very wrong and think she should be charged with murder and have her other children taken away from her. The other thing is i thought i had heard them say she had left one of her other children in the car a couple years before, that this was not the first time but the other child didnt die.

I feel this woman is a poor excuse as a mother. She was "distracted" what a stupid excuse. She stopped got donuts and she backed her vehicle up to the door to take the donuts out. Now usually when people back up they look back to see where they are going right. Well when i back up or even look in my rearview mirror i can see in my back seat. You mean to tell me she didn't see her child's head in the mirror or even when she took the donuts out of the back of the van. Please I think that this mother just couldn't handle a job and two kids. her five year old could do things for her self and so just having a five year old would be easier then having a five year old and a two year old. I don't think she wanted the two year old. She should go to jail she knew what she was doing. And as for the car manufacturers being responsible come on we are parents we had the children we should be responsible for them, If this was a dog she did this to boy she would be in jail right now.

this is my take on it and i live in canada, i have 3 children and 1 on the way and when i was a young mom of only 1 child he was so vocal and loud it was impossible to not know he was in the car with me.
so i am wondering what she did to make this child sooooo quiet that she never heard him. When you leave in the morning and you put your child in the car how could forget your child is there especially if you work with kids all day long.
i don't know the story but it sounds as if this small child didn't get any justice. His death was meaningless and no one is being held rsponsible for it.
Mothers like her (no offense to anyone) should be sterilized and not to be allowed to have children again. If she has other children i hope they go into the care of CPS and remain there as she apparently is not fit to be a mother.

I think this is terrible. It makes me want to cry for that poor baby. I definitely would not want someone this "distracted" to be in charge of my child at school. I have an 18 month old, a husband, and two jobs..I have never forgotten my child for a single second. I just don't understand. I am sure that no punishment could be as bad as what this woman feels but it still doesn't seem right. Babies are precious. "Forgetting"one you gave birth to seems like it should be a crime.

I agree with almost all of you. I'm a mom, I have never forgotten my child (she's 2 1/2 years old). I even look back or go open the back door to get her out when she's not with me out of habit. How could this mother forget? I work two jobs, I get tired and stressed too but my daughter comes first above all that. Why don't parents put a baby toy on the dash or the diaper bag on the front seat to remind them if they can't remember THEIR OWN CHILD! A weight or seat-belt sensor for children in the back might help, but people need to learn to take responsibility for themselves and REMEMBERING their own children! No more excuses! There was a man on Oprah who left his son in the car who died because he forgot his son was with him because his wife usually took his son to preschool/babysitter and he had a huge work presentation that day. I felt sorry for him and thought he had guts for sharing his story, but I still don't understand how you forget your child! Ever!

The mother of the deceased child has been negligent like that before. I heard on the news that the police were called because I think it was the day before the baby was found inside the car and the mother was no-where around. I think that woman should get jail. It was no accident if it has happened before..especially hours. She left the girl because she was sleeping right? Then when she was found she had blisters on her skin from the heat. Woman should get jail.

I think it is very wrong I dont understand how a mother or anyone for that matter could leave a child in a car. I never forget when my baby is in the car. I just dont see how anyone ecspecially a mother could forget. You think she would think about her baby during the day and were it is. she should be punished for it not able to walk away without charge.

She needs to go to jail....its not like she could not take her child to work with her she worked in a school and she was not a teacher had her own office...top notch there so why didnt she bring her baby along.

This is really sad and I hope she does not walk away from this it needs to be dealt with. Just like the lady who drove the car in the river or lake with her kids in it. So sad.

What we're not talking about here is the total lack of child safety devices in the car. When Mom gets out of the car and leaves her lights on, a buzzer sounds. She turns off the lights. What about when Mom gets out of the car and the back seat belt is fastened, and weight is sensed? Nothing happens. Don't our children deserve the protection that we've given a car battery?

While we are here, why is it that car manufacturers can make cars that go forever on practically nothing, but they can't keep the interior of themselves relatively cool? Solar power can't run a rudimentary air circulation system?

Yes, the Mom was tragically, neglectfully guilty. She'll never stop blaming herself for the rest of her life. But shouldn't some of the blame be laid at the doorstep of car manufacturers, who allow this tragedy to repeat itself time after time. They have the technology, and are not using it to save the life of a child too young to speak for himself. That's a crime.
