When I gave a baby shower for my friend I have done the following:
Decided on a date I want to held this event (best is Saturday or Sunday around lunch time) and if this event should be a surprise party or not (my party was a surprise party).
I had the room decorated with balloons and other baby shower decorations. (White, pink and blue since we didn't know if the baby will be a boy or a girl).
Phoned all of the "mother to be” female friends and invited them to the Baby Shower party. Only females should attend the Baby Shower...
Had plenty of food (like a buffet), beverages and a cake.
Everyone brought a present for the baby, including the mothers'. The "mother to be" opened the presents after everybody ate the delicious food.
I had some games such as:questions about the "mother to be" and who would have the most correct answers won a present (e.g.: a basket with bath products, or coffee products).
Two days after the party, I send Thank you cards to the people that attended this event.
I hope that this will give you some ideas. It is really fun to organize a Baby Shower! Good luck and have fun!

Okay well baby showers are meant to be fun and silly and a chance for women to just do silly stuff and forget their really grown ups! You can invite men, but personally unless they are really really into babies and games then don't bother. It'll be more fun without them.
You could have it at someone's home, or at a cafe or restuarant providing you have the money as this is usually more expensive. Someones home that has a large living room or outdoor patio is usually the best.
Pick a theme - depending on mother to be's taste. She might know what the sex is so you could accesorise with blue or pink, but I think that a baby shower should be about the mum so pick a theme that she would like. Maybe find out if she has a theme for the baby's room and go with that. If she doesn't know the sex (or is keeping it secret and only a few people know) then keep it neutral, - white, yellow, silver, pale green.
Serve "baby sized food" - such as mini sandwiches, mini hotdogs, mini quiches and then the usual things like some snacks like chips and biscuits. Keep it simple, don't go overboard but make sure there is enough for everyone. If you have an afternoon party it cuts costs on food then say a lunch time party. Make sure there are non-alchoholic drinks like punch and juice (tea and coffee) but get a couple of bottles of champayne for celebrating. Serve in baby bottles with the teat cut down, its so much fun watching everyone drink out of a bottle!
Ask the mum to be what she needs as gifts and set up a list to give out with the invites that way she won't end up with a million things she can't use and nothing she needs. Or 4-5 people put in a buy one bigger thing. Getting a list together is really important! Makes it easier for the guests to choose something as well.
Games are the fun part! Here are 4 sure fire winners!!
1. get a ball of string and make all the guests guess with the string how big her belly is (not allowed to actually put it around the mum's tummy). Cut off the string where they think. When everyone has guessed, they place their piece around the mums tummy and whoever is the closest (end to end) gets a prize.
2. Have a bottle drinking contest. Whoever can finish 100mls the fastest wins!
3. Get into teams of two. Tie one hand each behind their back. Get a large doll/teddy and a cloth nappy and pins/snappies. Using just one hand each, time how long it takes them to fold the nappy and pin it on the teddy. Fastest team wins!
4. Pre-print a sheet on the computer and put the headings, guests name, sex of baby, weight, length, date born. Everyone must guess what the baby will be according to the headings and when the baby is born, the person gets a prize! ( or just praise at being the closest!)
Overall make it fun and make sure there is enough to eat and drink and the rest will take care of itself!
I'm sure as a mother you will be able to handle this! Just do what ever you think will make the parents-to-be happy and remember less is more!
~best of luck!~

Hi! I am a baby shower expert; I can't count how many I've given. Send out invites (the mother to be should give you a list) and decide what kind of shower you want to have. I usually have them mid-afternoon and serve finger foods. At the last one I served things like spinach dip & crackers, chicken salad mini croissants, chocolate covered strawberries, small pimento cheese sandwiches, punch, and cake. I decorated with cheap clear glass vases tied with a blue ribbon, with two or three flowers in each. We played shower games, and the winner each received a small prize. You can have showers at someone's home, a rented hall or a church fellowship hall; even some restaurants are good. Also, enlist some help. Surely the mother to be has a best friend or aunt who will help. Showers are alot of work but fun to give becase everyone is always so happy about the new baby. Good luck!

hey! congrats on your grand child. first of all when your throwing a baby shower you have to pick a theme eg teddy bears or fairies. you start the shower with a few nibbles then you have some games which you can find on the net. then you have some more food open the presents and it's over. that's really all there is to it but remember to ask the baby's mum what things she would like cause I'm sure she'll be grateful your doing this for her. good luck and try to enjoy your self

It's basically a party where everyone (usually ladies) give the mother-to-be presents for the baby. I would start by asking the mother-to-be what she needs and registering her at Babies-R-Us or an equivalent store. If you know the gender of the baby, decorate accordingly (pink, flowers, dolls for a girl or blue, sports images or cars for a boy). If you don't know the gender, stick to neutral colors (yellow, green...) Also, you should have some baby-related games for the guests to play. For ideas on decorations and games, go here:

Good luck and congratulations!

Go to your local party store or look online for baby shower games. Play a few games, eat cake and mints and just enjoy each others company. The mommy to be will open gifts.
