Actually, Jesus *did* sort of commit the Biblical equivalent of "suicide-by-cop". Worshipers are quick to ignore the fact that from a secular aspect he was a criminal, flagrantly violating the established civil laws and prevalent religious edicts of the day.

As for respecting people who commit suicide I'd have to say in general, how could you? Suicide is a completely self-centered act and devastates everyone who may have cared about the individual.

Of course, if a criminal guilty of heinous crimes killed himself, I'd respect that!

First of all, Christ did NOT commit suicide. He sacrificed himself for us.

Secondly... I do NOT respect people who have committed suicide. I do however feel sorry for them and their families and friends.

I think it is a sin to commit suicide, and I think people who commit suicide are selfish. I know I'll probably get bashed and get a bunch of thumbs down for this, but it's just my opinion. I tried committing suicide myself, and obviously I didn't go through with it. I was very depressed at the time, and I wanted an easy way out.

When I saw how it affected my little sisters, my parents, and friends... I felt sooo ashamed. I respect those who can go through life's struggles without taking the easy way out.

Committing suicide or even trying to commit suicide is completely selfish and shows no respect for the people who love you. I t cannot be respected.
Also, such a wish to harm yourself is an illness.
But i certainly feel sorry for the mental state of such a person.

Trying to use Jesus as an example however, show's that you put this question on just to annoy christians. (which i am not)
But it is a pathetic battle.

Jesus did not commit suicide. He did, however, teach compassion, sadly lacking in some of these posts, which seem to come from people who have not had a lot of life experience (e.g. helping a severely depressed friend).

People who attempt suicide usually are not cowards. They often are in great emotional pain, and want relief from the pain rather than death. They also often feel hopeless.

Take some time to learn how ot help a suicidal person - check the web sites of help line agencies like the Samaritans or the San Fransisco Crisis line.

That is a very inflamatory question. It seems you are trying to get christians riled up by implying that Jesus could have prevented his death and since he didn't it was suicide.

Here is my take on your question. Jesus died for what he believed in. I don't think it was suicide and I am not a bible thumper. As for others who commit suicide, I do respect the decision their souls made to leave life. Suicide brings lessons and consequences for all of us. I do not respect people who kiil others and then kill themselves. Whereas I feel we all have the right to terminate our own lives, we certainly do not have the right to take away someone elses right.

Don't be surprised if you get called a troll for asking this. It really is troll like behavior.

I beileve that people who commit suicide are lost indiviudals who needed help and guidance to find their way again. The problem is that people now a days, will see others struggle and instead of helping them by either listening to them, helping them lift a heavy object, or just sparing that few cent of change in your pockets, we look away. Act as if its not our problem. But think about how many people you can help by just listening to them! Listening to their problems, their worries, their stories! So many people who commit suicide just want to be heard, and they figure that the only way people will hear them, will see them, will feel for them, is by taking their own life. The fact is, we as people, are the most cruel species their is. So do i respect ppl who commit suicide, no, but I do give my heart to them, because its one more person that wasn't saved, one more family that grieves, one more voice that goes unheard.

I guess Jesus kind of did, not exactly. I don't even believe, was brought up believing but I don't now. But I don't know if you can say Jesus.

Any way your question, I had a friend commit suicide. And I think nothing less of her. So I think nothing less of doing it. I don't approve of it. And I think that life gets bad but you have to hold on to see whats next, it can't always stay bad, stick around and see what can happen. But I still respect people even if they commit suicide. It was a bad choice in there life, they can't take it back, but it was up to them and I would never think any less of them

It's not really something I can say yes or no to. As both my parents have contemplated suicide in their lives when I was young...had they gone through with it, would I have no respect for them anymore?

One action can damage respect, but it cannot destroy it.

Suicide is weak, yes...but to the person, it seems like the strongest decision they have ever made in their life.

I don't understand anyone who commits suicide, but I don't choose to respect them or not respect them because of it. Cause what if it is a stranger whom I haven no idea what caused them to do it?

I can only respect the ones that made a tough decision not to burden their families with the huge dept of doctor bills and other expenses. That the family would have paid willingly too. Or those that just couldn't take the suffering any more and had no hope for a cure , as in a terminal disease in its most horrible last stages.

I don't judge those that did it out of depression. Though it saddens me that they did it. I can understand where they are coming from and why they did it.

Jesus chose to die , but it was the people that crucified him. If he had run he would have proven himself a non-believer in his own ideals and messages. The people had no right to crucify him and it was their choice to do so.

They're dead, of course I don't respect them. I tend not to respect inanimate objects. Their memory, on the other hand, may or may not be respected based upon the life they'd lived. That they committed suicide would only be a very small factor.

Cute way to ask the question, though - re: Jesus. ;-) People don't often think of the character of Jesus as having committed suicide, but were the myth true, suicide is exactly what it would have been.

ok for 1: JESUS DID NOT COMMIT SUICIDE!!!! I have no idea where you got that EXTREMELY false information. And to answer your question: I dont nessicarily respect or dissrespect a person who commits suicide. I, in fact, know someone with such thoughts, I respect this person because they are a fighter. they fight off the chemical imbalance in their brain. And for what I know it is quite hard. And i dont want to disrespect them because thier life must have been pretty hard. And I feel kinda bad. And, also suicide is a Sin and, well, I guess i just feel bad for such people.
