I know this seems like a flipped question…but I mean it.
I can not believe anyone who reads this tomb could ever think this god is loving and merciful.
I mean have you read this stuff???...he murdered Uzzah Uzzah, seen God’s Ark about to fall, reached out to steady it. God killed him for his attempt…why?...for defending this oh so precious item?!?
He murdered every living thing he created in the flood for kicks…I mean…he’s god…with a snap of the fingers he could fix all he was displeased with, and kill all the grandchildren he hated so much.
For those unaware Gen chap 6 opens telling how the sons of god descended from heaven to have sex with mortal women and the women had giants for kids.
In Judges 11, Jephthah vowed to God that if he were victorious in battle, he would give to God whatever came through the doors of his house upon his return from battle….god accepted the deal and gave Jephthah massive victories, guess who seen him first?...his own daughter!!

Assuming you understand god is all knowing and all seeing, and perhaps even influcened the event God accepted the deal knowing what would greet him upon his return, or perhaps even controlling the event and making it be his daughter.
Either way he accepted a human sacrifice…as a burnt offering…you understand what that mean biblically? …Leviticus tells us it’s the act of killing, cutting off all arms and legs and head…then assembling them on the alter and burning them until they are gone…could you do this to your kid?...sick stuff to ask of someone.
God had the children of Israel kill everyone they came across man, woman, kids, babies, the suckling…even live stock?!?...what ta hell could the cattle have done?!?
God murdered 42 kids…remember this is biblical times kinda kids, for laughing at a bald man?!?
You think this monster knows love and mercy?!?...you think this monster is worthy of worship?

It’s no different in the new Jesus is this same god…Mat 15-7 tells how he supports all the laws given to Moses and why wouldn’t he..They are his laws…do you know them?...read them?...horrid stuff.
Fact is, nobody follows this religion because they can’t…but they keep what they like and discard what they do not like and then demand you do the same. But all of this and much much more is in there and it gets much much worse.
I see a lot in here…what made you…or…how can you be an Atheist…answer…read the bible, anyone who fully reads, and fully understands what they have read and STILL follows this monster of immorality has to be mentally unstable.
I mean…ordering kids to be “dashed to bits in front of the parents”….you call this moral?!?..this is the work of your god?...have you read it?
The god of the bible is EVIL beyond any doubt, as such so must be those who KNOWINGLY adhere to his rules.

Bravo. My sentiments exactly. How anyone could read that book and think that god was worthy of worship is beyond any vague resemblance of sanity.

Yes I feel like you do. There is so much killing in the old testament. All the animal sacrifices. I always hope even today that the animals are killed in a humane way. I used to feel more pain when an animal died than when a human did. Peolpe killed right left and centre. That is why I concentrate on the happy stories, like Joseph and his techi coloured jacket. Depending if you feel depressed or not, psalms are good. Also Job and Lamentations. I had a relly bad relationship and so I used to get such relief from reading this book (Lamentations)of the Bible. Love pProverbs as it gives you wisdom.
I go through phases of reading the bbible or not. Theses days maybe a paragraph form the old and new testament,A bit pissed off at the moment because this woman from church put a spell on me but is is now gone.

Yes, I read it sometimes. Especially when I'm trying to answer a question here. There's a lot of violence, a lot of things that are hard to explain. It's best not to take it too literally, anyway. People usually say that about Genesis and Revelations, but it's also true of the history and biography materials: they must be understood as what somebody said a very, very long time ago.
For example, I do not believe humans used to live much longer lives than they do today. Indeed, the evidence suggests that they lived much shorter lives.
Nor do I believe the sun stood still because Joshua (I think it was; too lazy to look it up now) needed the time for battle. It may have seemed that way, because his sense of time was distorted by the passion of battle, but the earth went on turning and so the sun went on appearing to move.

Your question would be best handled if you asked one questions at a time.
1.) The Flood - was for a reason. He flooded the earth to rid it of evil. Noah (and family) was allowed to live because he found favor with Our Lord.
2.)2 Samuel 6: 3-9
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Samuel%206:3-9;&version=31;
Re: Uzzah - Obviousily the Lord did not want Uzzah to steady the ark. (Was the ark idolatry or requested by God?) This was in interferrence with what He (God) wanted, making Uzzah disobedient.
If the oxen stumbled - then so be it. Should have been left alone.
3.)Genesis 6 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=genesis%206;&version=31;
They were "supernatural beings - also called the "sons of God" in some Biblical descriptions. They are the Nephilim!
4.) Judges 11 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=judges%2011;&version=31;
God didn't force him to make that vow, he offered it freely. Once made, your word is your word! I did not read anything about mutilation though. She could have run away in those two months, but decided to return in the name of the Lord. She was made a matyr in the name of the Lord, I'm sure she received Heavenly praise in her sacrifice in the Name of Our Lord. It states she is commemorated every year by the young women of Israel.
He's not evil, He is a Just God! If this were our only life, then death would be disheartening, but with the promise of an eternal afterlife in Jesus Christ, death is a part of the life we live here, until we reach our final destination in eternal life - Heavenly Realms for some.
Hope this helps answer some questions.
God Bless
Marianne

Are we reading the same Bible?
I've seen all the things you mention, but I know the reasons for them, and I understand not only the scriptural context, but the historical context.
For example, when you mentioned the thing with Elisha calling down a curse from God against "children", I think you need to re-read the passage. First of all, they were NOT "little kids." The word used that was translated as "little children" is actually used to refer to young adults as well. Secondly, it says that two bears mauled forty-two of them. This implies that there may have been MORE than forty-two. There could have been a couple hundred for all we know. Thirdly, it does not say that all forty-two of them were killed. Fourthly, what would happen nowadays if one man was being jeered by a huge MOB of people (even if they were teenagers)? What if you saw something like that? Would you call the police? Would the police respond? What would they do?
Step away from evilbible.com and do some studying on your own. They'll point out those chapters, but they won't point out the ones that explain why those chapters are there.
Oh, and by the way, if the passage you mentioned that talked about killing children in front of their parents is the one I think it is, it was a threat, and it was never carried out.

clear sign, there was something that disturbed you and you let it shape your own view of the bible. What does the lamb of god mean to you? Jesus is the one human offering to god<< that is the foundation of Christianity. It sounds like you read the material, but non the less you dont truley understand it because your heart and mind was not open, It sounds like a lack of asthetic and moral sense, However Iam not all knowing so I do not truley know.

This isn't a question; it's a diatribe.
The Bible consists of many books, written by many people.
They have been accumulated & copied over 2000 years.
Each author is trying to interpret the events of his own time.
We (believers) don't come to our belief from analyzing text.
We start from a personal experience of the living GOD.
We look back into scripture to compare others' experiences.
We Christians know GOD as a loving Father, through Jesus.
We know from the events of our own lives that GOD is real.

This is true. Throughout the Bible, Satan in his various names kills fourteen people. Meanwhile, God takes an innumerable amount of human casualties through the Great Flood, the plagues upon Egypt, the war with the Phillistines, etc. Christians believe their God is the most merciful, and yet look at the evidence... It is the opposite.

Yes I grew up reading the Bible, went to a religious college where bible study was required, so I had classes in Bible for two years, and I still read the bible.
And I'm sorry to tell you this, but with a disrespectful avatar such as yours, I can't give any value or credibility to your opinion anyway.

Look, your question is way too long, but I get what your trying to say. Anyone can pick a part a book and make it sound bad. And yes some of the stuff in the bible isn't pleasant, but you have to read more than just the bad parts to understand what it's purpose is. Your question is so typical with those who are, how should I say this,...... anti Christ. Now I'm not saying your the antichrist or anything, I just saying that your against Christ, so please don't try to say I'm calling you names. You can't understand my faith, and the book that comes with my faith, just as I can't understand your faith and the evolution that comes along with your faith. I guess you can say that I am anti evolution. This is how life is so deal with it. God Bless :)

Death sentence is not murder but repayment for crimes committed. When someone was told by God to or not to do something, God expected His word to be followed. Sooner or later, everyone will fall under one category or the other, no one can escape.
