The limits to resolution are the lens and the grain of the film. Using a large negative, say 8x10 inch size reduces the impact of the grain. The lens needs to be not larger than f4, faster lenses require a lot of curvature correction to get the extra light and this limits the sharpness of the focus. A camera of this size is suited for studio photography only. Current manufacturers are Arca-Swiss and Toyo-View, you might be able to get a Horseman used.

For field photography, half that size (4x5 inch) cameras are available. Another make for these is Wista

CCD elements are generally less than 1 inch size. some day gigapixel arrays may be built which will benefit high resolution photography needs.

Perhaps you want to be a bit more specific with your question. You need to have some parameters for instance what is your budget, what do you plan on photographing? My guess is that you don't have $30,000 for a camera.

Go with 4x6 medium size film. It will blow away any resolution of digital you can create.
