Foods that are rich in trytophan. Tryptophan is the amino acid that the body uses to make serotonin, the neurotransmitter that slows down nerve traffic and lulls us into restful sleep. Eating carbohydrates rich in trytophan makes this calming amino acid more available to brain.
Foods containing trytophan that aid sleep are:
. Milk
. Cheese
. Curd
. Potato
. Wheat
. Seafood
. Beans
. Sesame seeds
. Oatmeal
. Apricots
. Bananas
Tip: Avoid eating junk food and highly refined food at night because fibre-rich food increases serotonin availability, but processed carbs over stimulates insulin, which leads to disturbed sleep.
Other Bed time snacks can include:
. Whole grain cereal with milk
. Ice-cream
. Seasame seeds
. Oatmeal or raisin cookies
Tip: Lighter meals are more likely to give you a good night's sleep.

Anything with calcium (which is why milk is good). Try to avoid sugar in the evening (and of course, caffeine). Chamomile tea helps. The herbs Valerian and Hops are also sleep aids. Melatonin, taken about an hour before bed.

Go to an herb store, not GNC and see if they have any 'lobelia inflata' from which you make a cup of tea. Drink that before bed and you will sleep like a piece of spaghetti. Lobelia inflata is the strongest natural muscle relaxer known. Or if you go on the net and find where it grows you can make your own tea. If that works for you email me and I will tell you the proportions you need to make a great tea. Pleasant Dreams.

Warm, caffeine- free beverages help. A light serving of your fave comfort food might also help. Banana cream pie does it for me.
I usually have trouble sleeping when I've got a lot on my mind. If that's the case with you, then try writing in your diary/ blog about whatever's bugging you. Works for me! My eyes get heavy after a few paragraphs. If you're not the writing type, try putting on some soothing music.

Bananas or turkey. But it is important to not eat for 3 hours before you plan to sleep, providing you have had nourishing meals all day. Wind down doing something relaxing

I have sleep issues too and Chammomile tea, or other of the same such as "tension tamer" "sleepytime", etc at the grocery store.
Have you ever tried guided imageray or total body relaxation? Very very helpful.
Also deep breathing excersises help.

Usually eating and drinking before bed will keep you awake longer, making it harder to fall asleep since your body will need to digest your food. I suggest a warm shower, and a big glass of water. =))
