I was a bartender, and most bartenders I know and have worked with didn't go to bartending school. They started as bar backs or by serving cocktails and were trained in house.

hi!
I bartended for 20 yrs, and I never went to school. I bought a bartender's Bible, and I learned on the job. Don't get me wrong; school is a good thing. But the experience that you get from learning from different people that really know what they are doing is invaluable.

Good luck!

If you're planning to make a career out of it, it would probably be the way to go. But it's not cheap, so if you're just planning to tend bar while you work through college, it might not be worth the cost.
