best gift would be a gift certficate to Roger Dunn, Edwin Watts or Golfsmith - can't really buy golf gear for a golfer, they really want to pick out their equipment themselves

Well freckles, if the person you have in mind is willing to get a little wet to play some golf, get him/her one of those waterproof suits that fits over their clothes. Very nice. Works in the winter depending on where you live. Other options to consider is if that person you have in mind likes to go on golf trips, get him/her a travel case for their golf clubs. It will hold the bag and everything. Must protect the equipment that so much money is spent on. If the person you have in mind is a Tiger Woods' fan(who isn't), get him so apparel from the Tiger Woods Collection. I saw a lady buy a pair of Tiger Woods' shoes one day at the golf shop. They're not cheap. She walked in and picked the box up, took it to the counter and said it was for her boyfriend. Paid for them on the spot. I thought to myself, "I need a girl just like her." Another gift idea would be a round at a very nice course or a membership to a country club. The membership would be quite expensive depending on the club. Hope this helps.

Actually the worst gift for a golfer is to receive something that he/she don't like or need. The best thing is to buy a gift voucher from the golf outlet for the person and let him/her to there and get something that he/she really fancy.

I have received wedges, drivers, golf bags as birthday gifts unfortunately I keep selling them off in ebay cos I really have no need or fancy those items.

You could get chocolate golf balls from Lake Champlain. They are classy and very nice. http://www.chocolate-candy-mall.com/chocolate-gift-candy.html

Another idea would be maybe a golfing magazine subscription or something like that for probably about $15-20. Link below has a good selection, I believe.

Hope that helps.

Well it sounds like you have a somewhat limited budget but I would say a gift certificate for a round at his favorite course would be nice. I would stay away from shoes, clubs, etc. because all of us golfers are picky and want what we want and you might not be aware of our particular needs. You can also pick up a nice framed print of his favorite golfer for about $50, medium sized at some sporting good stores.
