Right now Jake, that answer is up in the air. We are neither an enemy or an ally, but conditions seem to be improving.
N.Korea has indicated they are willing to give up their nuclear program, for aid and relief for it's citizens.
This is the farthest we have come in almost sixty years, in normalizing relations with North Korea. Hopefully they are sincere in their moves to improve relations with the US, Japan, South Korea, China, and Russia.
We have been down this path with North Korea before, and it has never come to fruition, but this time it seems to be working. We need to be watchful that a conspiracy doesn't exist between North Korea, China, and Russia, to sap food and materials from our warehouses and to other wise deplete much needed supplies.
Our relations with the last three mentioned country's are like that of the godfather, when he said; "stay close to your friends, but stay even closer to your enemies !"

No, we're definitely not friends or allies. The US and North Korea are technically still at war, and the US includes DPRK on its list of state sponsors of terrorism.
I'm not sure where Mezmarelda got his numbers of 16 countries with nuclear weapons; by my count there are 9 - 10 if Iran turns out to have them. In any case, North Korea doesn't have the technology to deliver its nukes to the US, so we don't have to worry about being bombed here for now.

Technically the US and North Korea are still at war with each other. There was an armistice in 1953, not a peace agreement.

Since they have a very large and starving labor force and are willing to produce products for our major greedy corporations, we will soon be kissin' cousins. It must be that China is getting too expensive for our corporations now, By the way, there are 16 countries in the world that have nuclear weapons FYI, including China.

No, we are not friends with N. Korea & we certainly aren't allies! They have agreed to disarm their WMDs in exchange for food & oil. Don't know who is going to pay for the food & don't know where the oil is going to be obtained. From the news I read of the pact, it sounds as though the U.S. is supposed to do all of this, wonder where we are supposed to get the oil?
