From the moment we are born we begin to die. This physical body ages until it has no life left and that is death. The spiritual portion of our being, however, is eternal. In the spiritual realm, death is the condition of being without God's presence, a darkness, absolute depravity. So you see, when most people talk of death, they are speaking of the body returning to dust from deterioration. When God speaks of death, usually, He's speaking of the destination of the immortal soul (heaven or hell). You can figure this out by paying attention to the context in which the word "death" is used.

Jordan... You're getting philosophical today, huh? I think dogs understand death and loss in much the same way that we do. Personally, not having experienced it firsthand, I can't speak on all the mysteries that lead up to, immediately follow or what eternity may bring. I don't think dogs are so different from us in that regard. What makes our knowledge about death so much more complex than any other living being without having gone through it ourselves? If anyone else has more information than that, I'd sure like to hear it. Also...as far as understanding life...it's importance and that it is not eternal -- that would entirely depend on what you as an individual believe...for many, life IS eternal...the journey we're on only takes a different form that we can't comprehend if we can't see it with our own eyes. It doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Some people view death as an end. Dogs may not see things in quite that way, but realize many people also don't. So who is closer to what is true? For those of us...or our pets...who remain when a loved one isn't here with us, I think the concept of pain or loss is much more universal between species than many would choose to acknowledge. I KNOW firsthand that dogs -- or pets in general -- have us all beat when it comes to compassion, unconditional love and forgiveness during our lifetime! So who (or what) truly is more complex?

We cannot understand death. Even Freud said after being diagnosed with cancer and given a death sentence said that conscience (or self, or something like that) doesn't know that it can die it actually behaves as though it would live forever. When I heard this I thought, 'You idiot, with all of your intelligence, and all your study on the human psyche, you still don't see that we cannot understand death because our real self is spirit and is eternal.' I was angry because he spoke against the christian beliefs and God, and blamed alot of human psychosis on those beliefs, and yet when he was in the process of dying, he gatherd about himself little statues of Greek gods, etc...to which he would talk to and 'they would talk to him'. Now that's an oxymoron if I've ever heard one. When he was diagnosed he made a pact with his doctor that when he could bare the pain no longer, he would choose the time, he would choose the place, and the doctor would give him an overdose of morphine...so he was playing God, choosing when and where he should die. He gathered about himself his little idols and his books and then the doctor gave him the shot.
We are eternal...we are spirit...and like Freud, we decide where we will spend eternity. And if we choose as Freud did, then we cannot blame God for our own choice.
As far as understanding life goes, Jesus said, "I am the life", until you know Him you will not understand life.

God made us from dust and dust shall we return, however our soul lives for ever, so if you are a born again Christian when you die you go to Heaven. John 3:16, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son that who sover believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. The Apostle Paul said that to be absent from the body was to be present with the Lord. Wow, thats are very good explanation of what happens at death right there, In John chapter 3: verse 3, Jesus says that you must be born again to enter into the kingdom of Heaven, So this is telling us that to go to heaven after death we must have believed in Jesus Christ, Have you ever been Saved, has Jesus ever washed away your sins and made you white as snow, he can right here and right now, just say this sinners pray and you canbe saved, Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!

Death is a mystery. God calls and we must come.
Our bodies die and rot and our souls find either everlasting happiness, or everlasting anguish. (unless you go to purgatory till the end of time or as long as God deems.)
Death is for God to understand we can pray to comfort those who's loved ones have died though

Death is the moment that we leave "body and soul" and become "soul".
What's so hard to understand about that?
